The instructors do an excellent job of walking through the concepts meticulously and making relevant work assignments. My life got too busy to finish this course, but I'll look for it again. I would like a good review because I know there were wrong concepts in lower math that got ingrained and always impeded me. The approach of this course is very methodical to help learn new math or to correct misunderstood math. It's worth the time!
This class was pretty easy but the thought came in completing the peer assessments about foreign communities and problems. It was enlightening to realize how small the step must be within communities to resolve problems we might recognize on a global scale. It gave me a new appreciation for the absolute respect for others, the coaching and diplomacy, that is required to do the most important jobs - like ridding a country of malaria - person by person! Wow! What great works so many people do, unrecognized except by time itself.
This could be re-done and be much better! I took it to get some exposure to Python while doing something fairly familiar with an investment portfolio. The lectures were poorly structured though, sometimes too short, and not explaining or even mentioning concepts that were applied in the homework. Accessing Python had been convoluted into a difficult process to use specific tasks. It was aggravating for me as it was un-focused. It seemed like there was no serious attempt after several weeks to improve so I finally gave up the ghost of learning anything about investing or Python.
This course had great information, but violated it's primary guidelines. The time commitment was supposed to be 5-7 hrs/wk, but some weeks had almost 5 hours of lecture. Just studying the lectures took the allotted time. The problem sets were very time consuming, also. It bothered me to not be able to complete the workload as I was very much interested in doing so. The forums had a lot of ignorance - not being critical, just that there were very uninformed people trying to guide others on problem sets. There wasn't good feedback to promote learning either. The professor tried to cover too much material and at too great a depth. I hope this class will be offered again, but with the approach of being an overview as it was apparently originally intended.
Fabulous class! This really got me thinking about how to approach teaching in new ways. The time commitment was about 6 hr/wk except for weeks with a peer assessment that took quite a bit longer. This perspective is really a paradigm change for how I look at learners for the future. Not an easy adjustment, but so critical to adjusting to this generational change.
This was a great, albeit brief, opportunity to learn and do some personal business evaluation! I've had a notion for a second career totally unrelated to my current profession, and this course has helped me to realize more about what my fears are and how to address legitimate concerns. I hope it will be offered again! I tried to encourage some friends who talk a lot about starting a business to join and they are probably still too unstructured... hopefully, they'll get organized and this could be an opportunity to help them really discover and decide. Thank you!
