This is another amazing course from the Molecular Biology team at MITxBio. It is a worthy second part, after the first one on DNA replication and repair. The structure is very similar, with recorded live lectures by Prof. Bell, together with the last week with Prof. Baker. Tests are again at two levels, with more or less simple questions after each video segment, followed by a much more challenging series of problems involving assays, which require careful reasoning and, although demanding, are very effective in enforcing understanding of the material. The content is rigorous and up-to-date, and the exposition is very well structured, with some extremely helpful and clear animations. The course staff is very responsive in the forums and provides a friendly sense of community to students. As an valuable addition, Cerego flash cards were available each week for review of the assays, including a set for Part 1. I only wished more content about regulation of gene expression, but I recognize that I have a personal interest on this topic. As I did for Part 1, I would definitely recommend this course to anyone interested in molecular biology, whatever his/her level of exposure. I am now looking forward, like many other students, to Part 3 about translation, which will hopefully be offered next year. In the meanwhile, I am going to miss the weekly dose of lectures and problems on molecular biology, which I have enjoyed so much during the last months.

What an amazing course! Professors Bell and Baker are true experts in their field, and it is clear their effort, together with the course staff, to structure a very clear, thorough and well-organized course. In the lectures, there is a strong emphasis on assays, on how we know about whatever detail is discussed, which definitely conveys the idea of how science is built and has to be understood. The quizzes are demanding, but not unnecessarily or artificially difficult. They are conceived as part of the learning process, and they complete and cement the understanding of the material. The quizzes also have a marked bias towards research problems, which I greatly enjoyed, and which can be very helpful for graduate students starting or considering to start a PhD program. In summary, with no doubt I would recommend this course to anyone interested in gaining, improving, revising or updating his/her knowledge of molecular biology.

This is an extraordinary course. It requires commitment and a fair amount of time, but this is what implies the approach of guiding students step-by-step to implement themselves the algorithms. In my opinion, this is the best (and maybe, the only) way to fully understand how algorithms work. There are also explanations about the underlying biology and how it affects the design of the algorithms. I also liked the idea of presenting an analytical need from some biological data as a problem that you address progressively, trying and improving different ideas until you find a way that works. This gives students a glimpse of how research on algorithms is done and how new methods are invented.

This is an amazing course for anyone with an interest in chemistry or with curiosity about pharmaceuticals and their effects on the body. The design of the course is first-class, with a very well planned sequence of lectures, examples and exercises. The course covers quite an amount of non-trivial material, without being overwhelming. I found the examples highly interesting and up-to-date. The interviews with experts working in each chapter's topics are a very nice complement, specially for those considering a career in the pharma industry.

This course is great. It is a sure bet if you are new to immunology and want to get a basic understanding of it. You will need some background in molecular biology. Taking the course is rewarding, but it is also demanding. You should be committed to put time and effort.
