I vote this the best Coursera course of 2013. Professor Lagerstorm is an outstanding teacher. It would seem an impossible feat but he managed to explained special relativity in a way as to make it simple enough for people without special math/physics background to understand time dilation and length contraction. I vote also Professor Lagerstorm as the best Coursera Lecturer of the year.
Very good coverage of exercise physiology for amateur sports persons to better understand how their bodies and muscles function when they exercise, what fuels are used in endurance and sprint type exertions, what happens when we exercise in the heat etc. I found a lot of useful knowledge that i can use to try to improve my performance in sports, but whether I shall actually be able to improve remains to be seen. : )
What a course by the incomparable Dr. Ronen Plesser and his TA Justin. The materials were very hard taking from the word go, taking one through the physics required to understand basic Astronomy. The course required many hours for the homework which was designed to further one's understanding of the subject by working through them. This course had an outstanding discussion forum with many helpful contributors without whom it would have been much harder to complete. Very hard course but well worth the effort. Highly recommended.
Very enjoyable course taught by an excellent lecturer Dr. Peter Struck and his team. I had read Odysseus before but the book came alive for me through Dr. Struck's interpretation and explanations of Greek myths. The teaching team is obviously very interested in teaching and have put their hearts into the teaching. Very nice indeed!
I dropped out after the third week because I found the lectures to be like watching a Discovery TV channel program on Internet history. It was not sufficiently compact and took a lot of time to go through. If I have more time, maybe I would have enjoyed the rest of it.
Very good introduction to Genetics and Evolution. Professor Mohd Noor is an outstanding teacher and his enthusiasm for the subject is transmitted to everyone. Lots of interesting and useful, up to date materials presented to allow good understanding of the field of genetics and evolution today.
Extremely interesting course presenting a completely new subject to me. Each lecture so far opens up a whole new abstract area of concern to think about. Very challenging and engaging at the same time, forcing me to think, think, think!
This was the only course I have dropped out of so far in Coursera because I was not learning anything useful after following it for 4 weeks. The frequent changes in camera angle presumably intended to keep the viewers engaged came across as annoying instead. For me, the course was going nowhere after two weeks, I waited another two to see whether it would develop a direction but gave up bearing with it after four weeks.
Interesting course but a little too general. I was expecting more depth on the topics rather than a a basic summary of requirements for life and exoplanets.
Very interesting and engaging lectures tracing the course of philosophical thinking over the last few centuries. Very much food for thought and a great gateway to further exploration of the various different philosophers and thier thinkings.
Very good introduction to Engineering Mechanics. Clear and easy lectures to follow to solve problems, even for me with only high school physics background.
