I had little previous experience with the subject matter, and the materials on offer gave a good overview of the subject. However, some of the material could have been better presented. The video lectures were awkwardly presented, at best, and somewhat confusing as the lecturer seemed to be confused himself at times. The accompanying interactive textbook could have been the saving grace of this course, however it includes many errors throughout, and contradictory information. The weekly modules contained a lot of working with the textbook, and were not very engaging. It was almost as though I had bought a textbook and worked through it on my own without much guidance or added information. Having said all that, I did learn a lot from this course, though it did very much feel like work rather than an enjoyable learning experience.
Fantastic course! This course was enjoyable, entertaining, and very informative. As a novice to the topic I found the introduction to topics and concepts very easy to follow. This is one of the better MOOCs I have come across. It is easy to feel included in the learning process, with very active discussion forums. The course material was presented very well, and we were given many opportunities and pointers to further our knowledge with outside resources. Paul Bloom has a very engaging lecture style, and it is really easy to get caught up in his enthusiasm for the subject.
Great course, taught by an obvious fan of the music. This course gave me a greater understanding of the composition, timeline, and progression of style of the band's music. Lectures are really easy to follow, and the course is well designed. A very enjoyable learning experience that has broadened my enjoyment of the music greatly.
Easily the most enjoyable course I have taken online. Dan Ariely is informative, engaging, entertaining, and makes the learning experience a thoroughly interesting one. I had no previous experience in this subject at all, yet was easily able to grasp the concepts on offer, and do well on the course quizzes and assignments. I was made to feel comfortable with the material, and the teaching style was very easy to adapt to. I would highly recommend this course, not only for those interested in the field, but for anyone interested in how an online learning environment can work so well.
