This course has AMAZING animations. This is truly a new way of experiencing mathematics. Unfortunately, it is quite demanding for someone without prior knowledge of calculus and the weekly workload (homework sets) is huge.
Great course! I have heard about Astronomy and Biology but "Astrobiology" - what the hell is this? Well, it turned out to be a really fascinating topic. I can recommend this course to everybody because it's rather easy, it doesn't require any previous knowledge and professor Cockell is an excellent teacher.
This "course" doesn't deserve the name "course" at all - it is just a bunch of badly recorded lectures.
Unfortunately, this course did not fulfil my expectations. In my opinion the main topic "Critical Thinking" was treated really superficially. One might argue that this was only an introductory course and five weeks were not enough time to go more into detail. However, there were only two hours of video lectures - an amount that other courses cover in one or two weeks.
Well, I did expect some Math and Physics but this was way too much. Astronomy is definitely an interesting topic and Ronen Plesser seems like a very good professor. However, I gave up after the thid week because I was finally too frustrated. Especially the weekly problem sets were just boring and - in my opinion - only solvable with a lot of googling. I expected something different from an introductory course.
This was one of my first MOOCs and therefore not only a great introduction to Mathematical Thinking but also to this new way of online education. Watching Keith Devlin's lectures felt like private tutoring.
