Very interesting and easy to follow ( for people with programming background) course from father of Scala language. Lectures are very clear and interesting, programming assignments are reasonably challenging. I can recommend this course to anyone, interesting in functional programming, Scala language (or both) topics. This course is also prerequest for "Principles of Reactive Programming" course. One advice for future students - don't undervalue forum! In particular in forum there are FAQs, built on base of questions of previous students. Those FAQs can save your time (and even some grading points).
Just completed Cryptography I. I love this course! I never had enough time (or passion) to learn cryptography basics, so Cryptography I was the really good chance to improve my education in this area. Pros: \- very well designed course from one of the best active scientists in cryptography area \- clear explanations of cryptography basics. \- not overloaded with long proofs, but instructor always gives the references to appropriate papers for further reading \- fun homeworks and programming assignements \- a LOT of really useful practical advices Cons: \- not found Highly recommended for working programmers and/or people who really cares how cryptography is used in modern world. Looking forward for Cryptography II.
Brilliant course! It's definitely the best introduction to electronics in Universe! Interesting material, clean explanations, well prepared quizzes, challenging homeworks and fun labs. I had no prior experience in electronics and decided to take this class when realized that for my home microcontroller experiments it's necessary to have better understanding of electronics basics. And this course exceeded my expectations. And yes - it takes some time (even more than NLP class), and you have to remember some math to complete this class (Hint for lazy people: WolframAlpha is an invaluable assistent for homeworks). Pros: \- extremely useful and well-prepared lectures. \- artistic lecturer \- provided electronic book not only very usefull but also interesting reading \- In-brouser circuit simulator for Labs \- additional materials - tutorials and demonstrations \- quizzes really tests your understanding \- active foum Cons: \- I can't find the next course from the same team ;-)
I've taken this course a year ago. It was very interesting and challenging experience. Pros. \- Interesting and broad course material \- Lecturers are active researchers in NLP area, and often provide information from recent papers \- very active and friendly forum ( BTW, this course was taken not only by people with no experience in NLP - I've met some people from Nuance on forum.) \- some programming assigments are very fun and challenging - you will never forget about PCFG's and Cocke -Younger- Kasami algorithm. \- I was very impressed when program which was written by me, performed better on POS tagging than I do. Cons. \- some lectures and assigments are very boring \- very annoying errors in homeworks. Hope in next sessions they all was fixed. Resume: Recomennded for everyone, interested in NLP. But forget about 6 - 8 hours per week - this course will take much more time. But the result is worth the effort.
Great course from Coursera's father. I can recommend this course to everyone who wanted to start learning ML discipline. Lecturer ( BTW one of the best scientists in ML area ) is very passionate about topic. He has a talent to explain complicated things in very gentle an easy manner. This course is invaluable introduction to ML topic, and must be taken before more advanced courses like "Natural Language Processing" or "Neural Networks for Machine Learning".
For me it was first course on Video/Image processing. As introductory course it serves quite well. All materials described from scratch in very interesting and attractive manner. I found this course quite easy to follow, and this is, no doubt, result of efforts of professor Katsaggelos and his team. I can recommend this course to any novice in digital Images & Video processing. But professionals will found this course too easy and introductory. Programming assignments described very clear. Some experience in MatLab programming is nice bonus to all course students.
