The biggest problem I had was that over half the grade was based on peer review. I will never pay for a class that offers peer reviews, as long as they can affect my grade. Every class I have taken that has peer reviews, their are rude, useless comments made. Students who did their assignments wrong, turned around and graded papers down based on their faulty understanding of the assignment. Students have downgraded peer assignments because of another students nationality. Peer reviews should only count as pass if done and fail if not done, the points that peers give should not count against grade at all. Peer reviews are supposed to be done by people with the same level of knowledge and that can't happen in a learning environment. We are not all at the same level of understanding of the subject if we are learning it I had no prior experience in this area, I learned a lot, I have never done music production before so it was nice to be able to start as a beginner and jump right in and understand everything that was being taught. I started off the review with what I didn't like and that was peer reviews. If they didn't affect grade then they would be fine.

I would not recommend paying any money for any class that offers a peer review, as long as students can affect my pass or fail in any class then it is a waste of money. Peer review is supposed to be based on being reviewed by students that have the same general knowledge on the subject and that can't happen when we are learning that subject. I have no problem with peer reviews as long as they don't affect my grade. I had no prior experience. I learned a lot. I had no idea that such a thing existed or that what these companies even had a name. This course exceeded my expectations. I loved all part of this class except the peer reviews. This course was a huge disappointment. One of the topics in the lecture was Obesity, The very first line of that weeks first video in the opening statement the instructor made a joke about this topic, I thought is was in bad taste and very unprofessional. I was going to say maybe I was reading to much into it; However, a student made a post on the forums about the very joke I am referring to, The instructor actually commented in this thread and said it was intended. There was also guest speakers on the topic above. One of those guest speakers was subject to verbal attacks on the forums by students, on her character, her weight and how her lecture was only to support her unhealthy lifestyle and finally students questioned her professional credentials, PHD's and her knowledge of the subject of which she spoke. The Instructor did not step in to defend even her own guest speaker whom she choose to have speak. Yes this course was different than I expected. I expected it to be professional and like the courses I have taken so far which, it is not I will not be taking another class from University of California, San Francisco again as it appears that this university approves of this type of unprofessional behavior. To be fair I did learn somethings from this class and for that I am glad as I can walk away not feeling that it was a total waste of time, This class did require more time than the course description stated, the peer assignments were at fault for this, It took me an average of three to four hours for each peer assignment, not counting the weekly lectures and quizzes. I have problem when it comes to peer reviews, you could have someone grading a paper that has less knowledge on the material than the person they are grading or the other way around. A student might be grading a paper of someone who has better language skills than the person grading it and if it's the other way around you can get people who down grade a paper because of poor grammar etc, the point is that in a peer review journal you are being reviewed by peers who have the same understanding and knowledge or close to the same knowledge as the person they are reviewing and I don't think that is possible in an online class. We are students not teachers and therefore some of use have more or less knowledge than each other on these subjects. You could also have people who would graded down a paper because of racism or hatred for another culture.

The instructor was very personable. Great topics. I learned a lot. The peer assignments tied in very nice to the course, No quizzes were required, Only peer reviews and I am not a big fan of those at all, but with this class it was pretty easy to do. She does a great job on the forums helping out, She also does lectures to give tips and explains the assignments and what she expects in them and how to grade them. no prior experience in this area. The class was fun and the professor was great and engaging with the audience. Great use of real life experience to explain topic. I never thought that physics was so easy to understand and learn. I think that anyone could take this course and understand it, It was presented in a very easy to understand format I liked everything about the course.

Peer reviews were a big problem in this class, more than half the your grade will be peer assignments, non English speakers are not even considered with this, in fact there were complaints on the forums about non English speakers and assignments being submitted. Fellow students even down graded people for this,. Students were not even willing to try and grade and maybe use tools like Google translate to name one idea. There was to many students that graded assignments wrong because the reviewing student didn't not even understand how to do the assignment. Students would take points off and then not explain why or what was wrong, and then there were students on the forums who defended by reviews by saying the revieweee may have a bad day. all you have to do is read the forums and see how things went. In an abstract class peer reviews should not be counted against grade. I will never pay for a class that offers peer reviews, as long as they can affect my grade. We are not all at the same level of understanding of the subject if we are learning it I had no prior experience in this subject. I learned how to write music, how there is a process to do so. It was nice to walk away from this class and be able to listen to songs and apply what I learned from this class. It's amazing to think that just a few changes like a pause here or there, or changing words or just switching words around can have such a huge impact. It was presented in a very easy to understand format.

I had some general knowledge, I learned a lot from this class, The professor was very knowledgeable, he was not like some teachers who had to use notes or read off computer screens to teach. It was presented in a very easy to learn manner. This course exceeded my expectations. There was nothing that I disliked about this course.

This course was excellent. This is my second class from the University of Edinburgh and they have both been awesome. The instructors are engaging and great to listen to. I have learned so much. I love the format of having a new instructor every week. It's nice not having to worry about doing quizzes every week so that you can pace yourself and really take in what is being taught without the pressure of deadlines every week. This was not what I expected, again I was thinking it was going to be boring and not very engaging and WOW it was totally the opposite. No prerequisites at all needed you can jump right in and start with no worries at all. I hope they continue to keep offering these types of courses from Edinburgh.

This was a great class for the 4 weeks took it. The instructor is awesome. He is very personable, he loves what he is doing and he very much cares and wants people to learn what he is teaching. He gives you everything you need to know when it comes to working out the problems on the quizzes and he does give you fair warning that he is going to not go easy on you and that you as the student are expected to work and that it's going to be a lot of work. I expected this to be very serious and dry class; However, the instructor has a great sense of humor and is very engaging. He states in the intro that he does not want you to have to take a lot of notes and that he does his best to make sure of that and he tries to make it obvious what he wants you to take notes on. On the forums there are problems sets given that help with the weekly quizzes and the staff is great about helping with questions related to the material. Over all a great class and a great staff. I dropped the class because I could not give it the time it deserves and therefore that would be disrespectful to the instructor and the time and love he put into this (as he really seems to love this topic).

I loved how this class was presented. I have no background knowledge in this subject at all and professor Noor made it very easy to follow. Yes it was very different than what I expected. I thought it would be boring and tough and I had doubts that I would be able to keep up. Professor Noor made it very easy to follow and gave all the information you needed to complete the quizzes and exams. I would like to see the 90 minute exams done away with or at least if you leave the the exam, the timer stops until you come back to finish it. I can understand that this might be to discourage people from using notes or lectures or what ever to help with the exam; However, this is a global class and some people around the world might not have access to a computer to a straight 90 mins at a time for many reasons. This course fits in nicely with what I have taken so far especially Astrobiology and the Search for Extraterrestrial Life. Some common terms and information is shared in both classes.

I liked the content. It was frustrating that some of the content was not covered in the lectures that was asked on the quizzes. They did seem to rebound and in the end it was a an okay class. I had no expectations. I took this course because my daughter did and so I was supporting her. I would like to see the information on the quizzes covered better in the lectures This course complimented my other finance course very well as it covered what the other class didn't. This class was not as organized as the rest of the classes I have taken, I do understand that this is a new concept and I look forward to seeing how this class evolves .

This was a great class. I loved how the deadlines were setup and how worked as it seemed to take a global view of the students and some possible challenges students may have when it comes to access to the internet. The Teachers were very personable Overall execellent This course was different than what I expected, which is a good thing and it also went well with the Think Again: How To reason and Argue call that is offered through Coursera I would like to see them explain how to respond to all the different types of arguments e.g. strawman half truths cherry picking lying to name some of them This course really fits in and helps with some of the other courses I am taking.
