Prior to this I had never taken a philosophy couse. It was difficult getting into the swing of things, but Professor Hare enjoys his subject and that alone should keep you returning until you begin to get it. Take his course, philosophy really is a science!
Completed the initial offering of this course in Spring 2012 and could not have been more satisfied. Professor Page is gifted with a passion for the subject, which he imparts in both his approach and presentation of the material. Take the course and you will not come away empty-headed!
Took the first session of this course in Fall 2012. Bottom line, this Stanford course is fast paced and packed with information. However, Professor Devlin is a great choice to take you through it. Take the Man's course and you may well discover a new way of thinking, Alternatively, if your previous mathematics education was lacking or left you with a sincere dislike of mathematics, take this course and be amazed!.
My early education experience with math was unsatisfactory. So I am taking courses such as this one to help me, as Professor Starbird would say "understand simple things deeply." The course will often seem that it is burdened with videos, but FWIW once I finished I believe that the Professor's course has method in its madness. Bottom line, if you want to get the basics right this is the place to start. After this I would take Coursera's Stanford Mathematical Thinking, then Coursera's Michigan Model Thinking. That's the reverse order from mine and I believe that it will make your experience and performance better than mine. This is a great basic math thinking course.
