I've always been interested in the Wars of the Roses and found this course an interesting introduction to wider life at that time. For me, the course included a few too many articles to read rather than videos and there were quite a few errors (although it was the first running of the course, so not surprising that there were a few teething issues). I did this course at the same time as one on Anicent Greeks (Coursera) and it suffered in comparison, but I did complete the course and it did introduce new concepts and ideas that I can follow up.
Not having done any Shakespeare since school, I was worried that this course would be too much on critically reviewing the plays. Instead, the course puts the plays into historical context, and illustrates and enlightens the writing of Shakespeare through historical objects and the politics and science of the time. The course was excellent, with Prof Bate providing really engaging videos and weekly updates that answered questions that had arisen in the forums. This was one of the most interesting aspects and was something I hadn't seen in MOOCs before. It took quite a lot of time to read the plays (one per week) but I found the whole course to be worth putting in the effort. A really good course overall.
This course was excellent. I had some geology previously, but no real physics or planetary science. Although the materials were hard at times, the explanations provided by Prof. Mike Brown were really clear. This is one of the best courses that I have taken, with excellent videos, lots of links to additional reading with links that work and homeworks/quizzes that challenge you making it a real achievement when you succeed. The coverage of subjects was wide and I have learnt so much, but there is still so much to learn. The best thing I can say about this course is that it has inspired me to go on and learn more. I would recommend this course wholeheartedly.
