Course Description

Adaptive Leadership is for anyone who wants to become more effective at leading a team or their organization through real change. Adaptive Leadership is a practical leadership framework developed by Ron Heifetz and Marty Linsky at the Harvard Kennedy School. Adaptive Leadership is designed to help individuals and organizations through consequential change in times of uncertainty when there are no clear answers. It is based on a view that leadership is an activity, not a person, and that leadership can be exercised by anyone, whatever their role inside or outside of the organization. Adaptive Leadership teaches how to identify and tackle systemic change through a process of confronting the status quo, distinguishing technical problems from adaptive challenges. A technical problem can be solved through expertise, the use of authority, and additional facts. An Adaptive Challenge requires change at the core of people’s belief... An Adaptive Challenge requires change at the core of people’s beliefs, feelings, identity, values, loyalties and deeply embedded behaviors. At Acumen we believe that Adaptive Leadership is a critical skill because changing the way the world tackles poverty is an Adaptive Challenge. We are thrilled to be working with the Cambridge Leadership Associates (CLA) to offer this free introductory course.
