Try IOS is a great introduction to programming for iWhatever devices. The course deftly sidesteps the diversion of the Apple development environment, XCode, simulators and NIB files and instead focuses on the structure of IOS applications - the relationship between controllers and views, and for good measure adds some network code and JSON into the mix. I can't fault the course. It's to the point, it takes the participant (and we do have to participate) deeper and deeper into the architecture of IOS development, peeling back the layers as we progress. The coding exercises are well explained and re-enforce understanding, without inhibiting progress by making exercises overly burdensome. At all times there is a helping hand with notes, and even hints. This is a faultless approach to teaching programming, encapsulating gentle humour, teaching and participation. Try IOS is the Tina Turner of development courses - simply the best.

I backed you guys on kickstarter and I was not disappointed. This course really did help with learning the basics on iOS. Before I took this course I was having a lot of trouble learning it on my own by using tutorials on the internet. I feel confidence that will a little more training I could get started on working on my app. Thanks guys!

The technology that makes this course work is seriously impressive. More impressive still is the pace at which the key elements of CocoaTouch are covered. The writing, presenting and structure of assignments is terrific. There probably wasn’t a lot of choice in the matter, but I think opting to teach programmatic view construction over Interface Builder proves to be a massive win. This course is the first time I’ve understood how views and their controllers come operate within an app. This being a “Try …” course, assignments are a little on the easy side, but I reckon most people will be ready to head straight into their first app by the end. Much love to Code School for this awesome course.

Fantastic learning material! The material I've been learning from so far only deals with the interface builder but your approach is a far better way to teach the fundamental concepts! Keep creating more courses... you have my money!

The course was great. I've used a few of the recommended resources to learn given at the end of the course before i tried the code school method. They were fine, but none of it made much sense until I completed the try-ios course. It really has pushed me in the right direction!

I have 8 years of computer science experience, and 3 years of teaching programming. What amazed about the course, is 1) you get to know the Logic and the big picture of how iOS programs operate. 2) you get to test hands-on code of what you learn 3) you repeat and repeat routines so you develop a coding habit and 4) you get to edit the code, and improve existing code, which is crucial 5) you learn basic pitfalls that may take you months to discover This is How Programming education should be

I've been slowly dipping my toe into objective-c and iOS. After going through BigNerd ranch's objective-c book, i bounced around between different tutorials, but nothing really stuck. This course was incredibly helpful and the first time everything kind of "sunk in". Love it!

I like that it digged into the code instead of the typical drag and drop programming of most iOS courses.

So it was a little rough getting through it this time, but after completing Operation: MODELS I'm going to give it another go. I have a feeling it's going to be extra awesome then. I'm definitely on the road to making my first app. I've already got the million-dollar idea.

This was a great starting point for somehow interested in diving into iOS development! After going through the first course, I knew that this was the approach that I could get into. I liked the combination of video lessons and challenge exercises. In addition, it was great to be able to follow the course with Xcode and test the code personally. Nice job overall! I'm looking forward to going through the Operation Model and MapKit courses.
