I took a C++ course in high school many years ago. Recently I have been looking to get back into programming and was told to look at RoR as a language. I liked the course because it got me coding again quickly. It is a good refresher prior to downloading a text editor and really going at it.

That was the first time when I've been really enjoying a programming language class. Clear and not overloaded by odd information text spiced by funny jokes creates a really warm atmosphere for learning. Nice and detailed design of Code School helps enjoy the lessons. I truly believe this is the perfect way for training guys like me - who enjoy the process and values it not less than the actual results of studying. Of things that can be improved - perhaps adding the basic information of conditionals and loops wouldn't hurt at all.

Besides I already had some experience with Ruby, this was a cool way of refreshing the things. The interactive way of learning is the best in my opinion, and try ruby get's it right from the first to the very last challenge.

I had some issues with the examples not going to the next page and single entry of "next" sometimes caused the tutorial to skip multiple pages at a time. Material was great. Excited to begin using Ruby!

To be honest, this was the most thorough and easily understood programming tutorial out there. I learned more in the little while I played with this than my whole intro to c++ class in college. It's opened my eyes to new horizons in programming and reassured me that it is something that I want to do for a long time.

This is a great crash course for someone like me. I'm a programmer with experience in C, C++ and Java and all I wanted was a kick off in the Ruby ways. I really liked it :)

Especially toward the end, I found I could complete the lessons, but didn't fully get the concept, or really understand what was happening. That said, it did give me enough knowledge that I could start diving into Rails for Zombies, which I found much more helpful.

I was quite impressed with the ode to _why and the novel approach to introducing ruby concepts. The exercises and extra credit were just enough to reinforce the concepts. A couple of kinks remain to be worked out, but this is another great addition to code schools lineup.

...for everyone that wants to know better about programming, Ruby and Rails in the future. For anyone with no previous expertise in programming, this is surely a good way to get started. For expert programmers, it's also a great resource to start walking on the marvelous and easy language that Ruby is.

This is an enjoyable little exploration of Ruby syntax; I had done the Try Ruby prompts once before on a much less friendly interface and this was definitely easier to use. The only issue I had with it was that there were a couple of points (I can't remember which ones specifically now) where I would enter the correct answer for a prompt but it would not actually skip forward to the next slide until I typed "Next." I don't know if this was intentional or if it was a glitch; if the former, it might be useful to make clear that on some of the exercises, the prompt won't move forward on its own. In general, great stuff though.

I liked this tutorial. It's nicely designed and the lessons are helpful. The Problem for me was that I have used ruby for 5 years now and therefore learned only very small details. At some point, the automatic input checking did not work properly and go to next lesson even if the right answer was entered. A short "next" did the trick. ;) I can (and will) recommend it to anyone not so familiar with ruby.

Thanks so much for the work you have done with making Ruby accesible to newbie. The content is good, but I wish there were a way where I could practice my skills with just spitting the code back. I felt that I was just being fed the code, and did not have a real understanding of it.

That's what I thought about the "Try Ruby". It was my first impression about Ruby and made me get more interessted on this language. But I think that may be useful teaching how we can start programming in our own computers, wich compilers to use e some recommended software. That's all, thank you and sorry for the bad english.

Great intro to Ruby...picked up a lot and done in a great format. However, when I got to the last lesson and was trying to put everything together whenever I would enter commands it functioned similarly to 'Next' and kept advancing me past screens. Besides that, amazing amazing stuff. Thanks!

Was looking for a course to get me started on programming so picked ruby. Simple to use and like the fact that the course makes you think a little bit. i.e. just copying the text doesn't always get the right result, well in one bit anyway. Good humour in use and now eager to hit the books and learn some more. Intend to use to script some admin functions for servers.

Hello. I'm an application developer and my favorite way of learning things is watching screencasts with support of available online documentation. Your system is great from me (also better), and I've already spread the word to my colleagues about this wonderful platform. Thank you very much for sharing knowledge and for this great great site. I thank to you the opportunity that you gave me to learn new things in a very pleasant way. Thank you!
