This course was exceptional. I was astonished by the ability of Prof.Bushee to clearly explain the difficult fundamentals of the discipline, which many students find a challenge to learn. I am in the Law field, but I had no problmes at all in dealing with the subject thanks to the pedagogical skills of Prof.Bushee.

But thanks to the excellent teaching of prof. Bushee I stayed and even started to like it! Now I finished the course I mis him and his jokes..

Course content: Excellent! Instructor: Fabulous! Provider (Coursera): COLOSSAL FAILURE I took a required accounting course decades ago as a requirement in graduate school (Columbia University School of Engineering and Applied Science). Back then, I found the material so profoundly boring that nothing really stuck. But Professor Bushee was able to make it interesting. And the last section on ratio analysis is *really good*. This is the second course I've taken on Coursera as "Signature Track". The first was Wharton's marketing course (also good), but in my opinion, Coursera has TOTALLY FAILED to process anything correctly. Financial Accounting seems to be another failure. I'm hoping to resolve the issue, but I've already wasted SO much time trying to get things straight with Coursera. Hopefully I can get my money back, even if I can't get the wasted time back.

This is an excellent class. Prof. Bushee is clear and engaging. The presentations contain lots of practice as you go so you can make sure you understand the material. The class is challenging and the homework and exams are not easy at all but you can definitely do well if you are serious about the class. every concept is related to the "real world" through evaluations of financial statements of real companies. This class takes a lot of your time but is absolutely worth it because of how much you'll learn.

The best MOOC I have ever taken, period. And perhaps up there in the list of best classes ever. This was my first Accounting class, so I did not really know what to expect (except maybe boring lectures!). However, this course was extremely interesting and informative, thanks to Prof. Bushee.

Holy cow! This course was amazing. I have tried for years to learn financial accounting by either reading books or watching videos, but could never get over just how boring the subject is. Prof. Bushee is simply amazing. In each video he walks students through a particular concept using the appropriate level of theory and concrete examples. He also emulates the classroom environment by using animated virtual students who ask questions for points of clarification. The quizzes and final exam were definitely challenging, but appropriate for the material covered in class. I'm saddened that he only teaches this course and none other. Otherwise I would sign up for anything with his name on it.

I just started taking this mooc and already am very impressed. The lecturer is very good and the explanations are on point and clear. Obviously a lot of thought has gone into the presentation. The short animated breaks are great too. Highly recommended.

This was one of the best MOOC course that I have taken so far. Professor Bushee is very passionate about the Accounting and put a lot of effort teaching the course. I took this course on the recommendation of Prof Guatam Kaul who advise us to take an Accounting course. I recommend this course as well Prof Guatam Kaul Finance course. I hope you enjoy this course as much as I enjoyed this course. BTW Prof Bushee is NFL fan - Go Vikings

I'm a software engineer with no background in this kind of stuff, but Prof. Bushee really does an excellent job with the material. It's presented cleanly and clearly, and he goes through a ton of examples. The first few lectures I was rolling my eyes at the animated characters, but after a while I grew quite fond of them. They really break up the lectures well, and the professor seems to know just when you would have questions about the material and pops his students in to ask. Great, great class.

I have always thought of Accounting as boring and didn't think I would complete this course. Nevertheless I enrolled since my father was and my brother is an accountant and so was always curious about the subject. Prof. Bushee made this subject interesting and not only did I finish the course, did the exercise and did surprisingly well on the exams. The basic concepts of accounting were well introduced and the exercises during the lectures and in the home works really helped one understand the fundamentals well. I'd highly recommend this for anyone wanting a solid introduction to accounting.

Whilst I have to admit that at the beginning I was not overly thrilled by the idea of taking an accounting course (enrolled in order to prepare for a professional exam), I was quickly captivated by the excellent teaching by Prof Bushee, who by cleverly introducing some "virtual students" even manages to create some kind of classroom atmosphere within the lectures... When it comes to "homework" and the "exams" the questions posed were absolutely fair in a sense that watching the videos actually prepares you for the test... The professor was also very active on the forums offering helpful advice to the students - in my eyes the course is nothing less than excellent...

This was an excellent, excellent class. One of the best online classes I've taken. It is difficult if you have no exposure to accounting concepts (like me!). But if you take time with the material, you will learn a huge amount and can do well. Note that the class is 10 weeks long. You're presented with a good deal of information to absorb in each video - and you will need to retain information from prior 'lectures' in order to work with the material that follows. Professor Bushee keeps things amusing with his 'virtual students' who comment and ask questions. He has a great sense of humor and makes an otherwise dry subject somewhat fun. (Really!). I would definitely take another class from him if offered. From reading line after line of 'thank you' comments from students in the class forums, I can say many share this view!

I just finished this great Introduction to Financial Accounting class. Professor Bushee's off beat humor nicely contrasted the normally dry subject mater. A lot of effort was put into the slides, that are easy to print off, I found no need to take additional notes. The lecture videos are a little long at times. I highly recommend this course.

This was an excellent introduction to the world of Financial Accounting! The lectures covered a lot of material involving financial statements and analyzing these year-over-year. The professor also made the course really interesting with 'virtual' students who asked questions and made jokes along the way. The review questions, midterm and the final exam were fair in that you could use the lectures to study for them and get a decent grade. Overall, this is the best MOOC I have taken so far and would recommend it to anyone for a future offering!

I have considerable experience in financial statement analysis but almost none in the preparation. Prof. Bushee takes what is generally considered a boring subject and brings it to life. A thoroughly educational and entertaining class.

If you are a novice who is keen to understand the language of accounting and get in to the habit of reading financial statements like Warren Buffet, look no further as this is the course to take. More so because of Brian Bushee who is a Professor par excellence. In 10 weeks he takes you through a journey from simple topics like double bookkeeping to advanced topics such as COGS, AOCI, DTA, NOL carryforwards. The Professor has a flair for keeping you engaged even though the going gets tough with his superb delivery style. The material he has put together for the lectures is of the highest quality, easy to understand and with numerous examples along the way. What is also interesting is that on top of all this he uses virtual class students whose questions preempt that the viewers would be having and he takes on these with ease and injects a good dose of humor along the way. His desire to make you learn goes even further as he gets perso... An absolutely excellent introduction to the world of financial accounting. Do not be deceived by initial appearances: behind the funny animated 'virtual students' lays a complete, rigorous course, which culminates in a series of Executive Education lectures on report analisys - in other world, the 'real stuff'. This is not an easy training, and will require your concentration and a bit of free time; some of the topics are indeed complex (the statement of cash flow, bonds, deferred taxes). But stick to it, and you will find the knowledge you will gain extremely rewarding.
