We may often use social media without thinking much about the possible consequences. But there is a shadow side associated with social media use, which takes the form of hate speech, increased surveillance, lack of anonymity and questionable use of our data. What do we need to know to use social media spaces effectively, in a way that is safe and productive for all? This course will guide you into a deeper exploration of online identity, social media communities and their users. Terrible online course, in fact, worst I've ever taken. Firstly, Uni Syd require you to pay UPFRONT in order to access the course. This means that there is no free options and also, if you pay for the course there will be limited students to interact with and discuss topics. I paid for this course and found the information basic and common knowledge. I found that without other students there was only a very limited learning potential. Getting assignments graded was also impossible as there were not enough students to peer review. Absolute disgrace of a course. Uni Syd should be ashamed of themselves. There are many much better courses on coursera from, ironically, more ethical universities. Steer clear of this one. It's money down the drain.
