I took the course the first launch, it was hard, and for this reason I feel proud to had obtained a certificate. It was very inspiring to know in deep the really of the climate change with a physical view . Now, I am starting a blog with issues related whit sustainability in wide sense and climate change. I have confidence in my opinion about global warming due the insight that professor Kerry Emanuel and professors colaborator share with all.

This course is an exceptional introduction to the math and physics of global warming and climate modeling. The problem sets were exceptionally but beautifully challenging, and the instructors pushed me beyond my intellectual capacity many times. By the end of the course my brain was exhausted and "buzzing." However, I now have a much deeper understanding of the state of the art of climate science and this has strengthened my resolve to participate in public discourse concerning our shared atmosphere and global systems. I am very proud to have earned a certificate for this course, and I highly recommend the course for anyone that wishes to dive into the math and physics of climate science.

Very interesting subject. The pressure is really on the science more then on story telling or political action. Some fluency in mathematics (integrals) is required. Gives some insight on how the climate works, but it there is very little material for dowloading (apart from IPCC reports), so it is best to take notes during lectures.

I started this course with the intention of doing all the exercises, but I found them too hard. I completed the course by just watching the videos as I was still able to learn some interesting things. It states in the Prerequisites "some college-level mathematics" it been too long for me since my University days for me to be able to do the Maths in this course.

The subject matter is very interesting but the voice of the professor is sometimes caused me to feel sleepy. For me, it sounded like a lullaby. No offense to the professor, perhaps the problem was on my earphones I was using. Sometimes you don't need to watch the videos in order to have a very nice score in the homeworks and I found it different. I had to drop this because I wanted to concentrate on 6.041x Intro to Probability which I was taking simultaneously.

I was not exposed to any aspect of atmospheric sciences, global warming. I had a basic training in Physics and Maths but the connection of these basic tools to things around us was done in a very methodical and structured manner in this course. Prof Emanuel's lectures were highly educative, well paced and well delivered. The intricate mathematical formulations were explained each time with physical meaning of each term, each coefficient with its sign. Never seen teaching of this quality before. I plan to pursue further (informal) study on this subject on my own and maybe start contributing to the research at some point in time! Hats off MITx and edX for offering 12.340x. An amazing course! ~anoop

The class does a fantastic job of explaining (both on a broad-macro level and a nuanced-micro level) the various actors and analyses of climate change. If you take into account the prerequisites for the course, the problem sets are appropriate and help with understanding the material.

Taking this course was a very enjoyable experience. The lectures were very interesting and the problem sets helped develop a deeper understanding of the concepts. There is a requirement that students know some fairly basic mathematics, chemistry and physics (the amount I covered in high school). I have really learnt a lot of new things about the climate and weather.

Big disconnect between the lectures (very interesting, the main reason for taking the course) and problem sets (rigorous math required). The subject is extremely relevant and objectively presented.
