Course Description

This course provides an overview of and introduction to the fundamentals of aeronautics, using the history of aviation as a story line. The course uses examples from the very beginning of aviation (the Montgolfier brothers’ balloon flight in 1783 and the Wright brothers’ heavier-than-air flight in 1903) and continues all the way through to the current Airbus A380 and future aircraft. During this trajectory three major topics are discussed: aeronautics, aerodynamics and flight mechanics.

Lectures are frequently accompanied by related exercises and demonstrations. The course also incorporates (design) challenges/competitions, based on the knowledge obtained through the lectures.

This was a tough introductory course by EdEx standards, with a strong emphasis on derivation of equations, so I suspect it had a high drop-out rate for students not expecting the amount of maths involved. I now have a real appreciation of the important aspects of aircraft design and flight. The course would be improved by the provision of a set of course notes (not just lecture transcripts) and faster responses to questions on the discussion board.

This course is best for beginners and i liked the way they explained in it. This is not only a introduction but also a good guide for our further studies. Especially Jacco and mark lectures where good. Thank you DelftX for presenting this course.

The course was nicely planned and organized, from the contents to lectures and exercises. Taking account of the huge information I was able to gain, thanks to an encouraging learning environment, I would recommend others also to join. If you just have the will, this program will make a 'way' for you!

Course content: excellent! Instructors: excellent! Provider: excellent! For my students this course was an excellent introduction in aeronautical and aerospace sciences. Even if they were more on the electrical part, all the other specialties presentations were very interesting and they achieved valuable information which will help them in becoming avionics engineers.

A complete introduction course in many aspects of aeronautical engineering. Very good examples and descriptions. Main drawback is almost complete absence of official assistants in discussions and forums. Sometimes we as students felt that our questions never seen with assistants.

As an aircraft maintenance technician and coming from a non mathematical background, this course was the most challenging for me so far and it was the most inspiring as well. The professor are wonderful, and the course inspires personal achievement by research. Thank you professors

The course offers exactly what it claims to: an introduction to the topics mentioned, and it does it on a very high quality level. The difficulty corresponds to an early BSC course. The lectures are well structured and throughout. The explanations are clear, the equations are derived from the basics, with using high-school math and physics. I especially liked the enthusiasm of the lecturers, and the real life practice tasks. I would definitely recommend it to anyone, who is interested in the field, and has no prior knowledge in aerodynamics and flight mechanics. One of the best MOOC courses I've encountered.

This course helped me realize what AERONAUTICAL ENGINEERING means in a physical world. I was vague about the M.Sc. track I wanted to pursue for a masters degree in Aerospace engineering And it helped me make a decision. The Content designed helps you explore different domains in engineering that aid an Aircraft to fly. The professors are highly qualified, erudite and interactive!

Actually, Santos Dumont invented the airplane, not the copycat Wright Brothers. This is an international institution, get your facts right.
