I did not see anything related with Hadoop and MapReduce as description said. This a fake marketing because that was my main motivation.

I have just completed the course. I did not have programming experience, and it's been a challenging and sometimes frustrating journey. Overall, I'm happy to have taken the course since it stretched me to understand the content and find solutions to the problems given. It inspires me to start developing on daily problems I encounter and the lecture as the content were of high quality. I would recommend it to others, with the advice to do some python course beforehand. Personally, it took me quite some time to understand the more basic stuff and solve the easier assignments. I was not able (time-wise) to tackle the complex assignments (Network analysis / Text mining). If I had some decent programming experience before, it would have served its full value. There was only one downside. There were technical issues while grading your coding which consumed time and energy. In the end, I'm satisfied and I will definitely do some more ... This course has some teething problems. The lectures are very good, and the jupyter notebooks provided with the course are excellent resources. Unfortunately, the course design and architecture had some serious issues. There were regular technical difficulties with the assignments, and little in the way of technical support. The quizzes and assignments often had insufficient and/or misleading instructions. It was not unusual to see changes in the quizzes on account of these issues. The grader through which assignments were submitted had major problems. The grader timed-out after a 20 seconds of testing, making it impossible to receive a grade in the absence of expertly written code. This was never explained during the course, and it frustrated several of the students on the discussion boards. If your code was long, but working, it did not receive a grade. The grader timed-out after a 20 seconds of testing, making it impossible to receive a grade in the absence of expertly written code. This was never explained during the course, and it frustrated several of the students on the discussion boards. If your code was long, but working, it did not receive a grade. This should give even intermediate coders pause before going forward with this course as nested "for loops" and "while statements" will take too much computing time to receive a grade. Even worse, here was one week where no code was running. Students were left hanging for several days before the problem was eventually fixed. This threw the course off schedule. Another problem was the relative absence of staff members and/or teacher assistants on the discussion boards. Occasionally staff members would pop-up to resolve technical problems, but questions about content were seldom answered. This was a live course, and those resources should be available. The time commitment is also extraordinary given the issues with the grader and the quizzes. This is not a course that a beginner or even intermediate coder can finish after work on a Monday night. For this course to work for all learners at different coding levels, the grader will need to accept all working code. The professor will also need to give coding lessons that instruct students how to write code efficient enough to be accepted by the grader. Finally, staff will need to be more responsive to student issues. Given that this course is expensive for a mooc, I recommend auditing the it unless you have expert python skills. Beginners should only audit. Intermediate learners should seriously consider whether or not they should go down the certificate path.

I learned alot from professor Hardeep Johar, he is great Instructor. But there is no balance between lectures and assignments the professor explain very easy problems and codes and the assignments are really difficult and complex. You will get stuck every week and you will spend more than 25 hours for every week because there aren't any additional resource or previous examples. For example, in week 4 you will need to write 100 complex line code without any mistake otherwise you will get zero. I don't think any beginner can do that even if you have experience in python and the lectures not enough and not cover what you will need to complete the assignment because of the instruction of the assignment not clear just solve this problem also the same problem in the rest weeks. And the sound for lectures very low and the font size very small.

Good course, it is a pity that the slides are not provided. The instructor is very proficient and it would be great if more auxiliary material is provided.
