Course Description

Explore complex, multi-actor systems in which one factor influences all other factors. For instance, how innovative energy technologies merge into the existing energy system, or how new transport possibilities impact current processes. Armed with this information, learn to decide whether they should be further developed, consider possible negative results and weigh associated costs.

There are multiple ways to make decisions, but one way proven to be very useful is the analytical approach - a methodology for making the problem explicit and rationalising the different potential solutions. In short: analysis based support of decision making, design and implementation of solutions.

Creative Problem Solving and Decision Making as a course teaches you this method.

I find that the video material are not well related to the quizzes. The videos and book are basic, while the quizzes are advanced questions. Also, I kept posting my exercises on forum, but had no reviews at all. It seems a good content for a course, but the experience of the course was nat good at all. Until now, I have no idea if I'm doing things right.

This course is completely invalid. Course material is very basic and theoretical. There is a great gap between what is taught in the lectures and what it actually takes to apply it. Most importantly where the course theoretical tools can't be applied the instructors simply blame it on the "user" mistake, without providing any way of avoiding these mistakes and asks you to choose another actor or problem, which defeats the purpose of a "problem solving course" and thus making the entire course completely invalid. My two cents on the problem solving thing is that you need specialized knowledge to solve a specialized problem and courses like this, that promise to solve any and all of your problems using a universal technique that only they have are a modern day scam, the likes of guru's and fortune tellers.

The material in this course is very good, and the way methodology to problem solving is very easy and it takes you step by step. The main disadvantage is: quizzes and assessment method in this course is not well structured. Basically, the quiz is not related to actual knowledge of the course material. If you want to take the course to gain more knowledge about methodology of problem solving, it will be great for you. However, I don't recommend that you pay for a certificate as the assessment model will not grant you one based based on your knowledge and understanding of the actual material presented in the course.

Seems a bit rushed to cover several tools in such a short course and it could cetainly benefit from some better assessment and practice to reinforce the concepts taught in the lectures. Having said that the material that is taught is quite useful and applicable to most situations.

This course contains a lot of great information, but it falls short on presentation. There''s plenty of reading material, but it's not adequate for the advanced level of the exams. More video lectures would probably help. It's still a worthwhile course, but I wouldn't recommend paying for a certificate up front.

Absolutely a MOOC that worths! It gives the right mind-setting to approach complex problems. It is an overview but enough to understand the methodology and to start to apply it. The topics have proper examples. The material provided if esaustive and free. Why I did not give 5 stars? The content is very good but I believe it missies and overview of the Computer Aided software / tools. The instructors are clear but I'd have expected more interaction in the forum (I enrolled at the very end of the course). About providers not particular pro or cons.

I was impressed by how well this course was taught as a virtual course. Solid content. Good processes. I wasn't able to complete the course during the time it was offered, but thought it was useful enough to go back to it after the interactive sections ended.

Interesting course about a great topic. The lectures are well done and the provided knowledge is very interesting too. They use a lot of good examples to proceed with the method and curtain tasks. The instructors are doing a great job and provide a lot of useful insights. It was fun to watch these videos. The quizzes are sometimes a bit difficult to follow but this should not affect your passing through the course.

It's such a unique course! People think that solving a problem requires a certain type of mentality, a higher level of creativity or even supernatural personalities, when in fact non of such is needed, which is clearly explained herein. This course does arm the learner with the tools needed to solve problem without being supernaturally creative! However, the application of the techniques provided is harder in reality than the one could think. One of my favorite courses of all time.
