This course will teach you how to live fully as a human being, in this body, on this planet, while at the same time being conscious that you are just a small part of a vast, incomprehensible, universe.

Our experiential approach focuses on the innate wisdom of the human organism and our tendency to evolve in a forward-moving direction. You will learn how to become aware of this deeply felt knowledge by giving attention to your body as felt from the inside and to your emotions.

Our person-centered approach encourages building optimal human relationships through empathy, respect and authenticity. These are complex skills, which we will bring within your reach by means of simple exercises.

Through examples, role-play and video-demonstrations we will illustrate how you can apply our existential well-being approach in a variety of helping contexts, including counseling and psychotherapy. You will develop skills to embody the existential well-being approach as a person and as a professional.

Your learning will be enriched through exchanging thoughts and experiences with a diverse group of international participants. You will learn to notice how people from different cultures have different ideas about what it means to live well and meaningfully. You will engage in discussions where divergent values can be respectfully acknowledged. Your personal view of well-being will expand and deepen to a more universal perspective on what it means to be human.

This course is taught by instructors with decades of experience in existential psychotherapy, focusing -oriented and emotion-focused therapy, person-centered counseling and positive psychology.

The instructors are also teachers and researchers in the fields of psychotherapy, positive psychology, meaning and spirituality at KU Leuven, a prestigious European University.

This course offers you a high degree of flexibility. You can follow the content in sequence or choose to complete sections in order of interest to you. Be aware that it would be realistic to spend 6 to 8 hours on each section. The course will be available from October until the end of June and you can follow your own rhythm in studying and practicing what is offered in each section.

I took up this course in October, and I didn't really know what to expect from it. And in my busy life, I've had to steal lots of (sleeping) time in order to go on with the course and to finish it by the end of June. It has caught me from the first till the very last minute, from the smallest video to texts of 27 or more pages. I've really learned a lot of theory, but also tons of wisdom from Mia, her colleagues and all of the fellow students through the interactions on the discussion forum. I would like to thank all of you so much for this unforgettable and enriching experience! With kind regards Luc

Thank you to the entire team behind this course and to my co-students. I got so much more out of this than I could have hoped for. It complements my other studies so well, and what I really appreciated was the thoughtful selection of articles and concepts, frameworks, ideas, case studies that were truly integrated and left so much space for my own experiences, talents and what feels comfortable for me. At no point did I feel the course tried to press me into a mold of preexisting ideas, everything was an offering and an invitation and the breadth of thinking made accessible is fantastic. At the same time there was a clear structure and thread I could follow. It has filled me with inspiration and new ideas, greater confidence, reassurance, and a lot of energy to push forward with my career change. Many thanks for this experience and being able to travel with you all for some time.

This course truly is a masterpiece. I learned a lot, gaining a lot of knowledge, but more crucially, true wisdom was shared. My heart jumped with joy many times through studying it. The course unfolds in a very clever, outstanding way, triggering your curiosity. It is condensed enough, to keep you going (with a lot of hints for further reading, if you like), yet not too condensed, to be subtle and thoughtful enough. The staff is really teaching as they are preaching, or better yet, as they are (authentically) I presume. If you are looking for personal development, framed at a high intellectual level, you are at the right place here.

The course is well-planned, well-delivered, well-paced. It allows for personal and professional development. The instructors are very knowledgeable, and caring. The course is delivered in a way that allows for reflection-time, thus making progress possible. I hope they offer other courses in the future, this course was an unexpected opportunity for me. Finally, I would like to say I am not a professional in the field, I enjoyed its content and was able to understand most of it. The content is varied and accessible, yet deep and thought-provoking. All in all, a great course.

Thank you for this very inspiring, thought-provoking, insightful, and wholesome learning experience. It far exceeded my expectations of what an online course might provide. The course was very well thought through, organized, and inspiring in content. Often it gave me the impetus for further research into a person (especially Eugene Gendlin) or topic (especially focusing) beyond the course material. The course was on excellent standard concerning the learning materials and the way the instructors supervised the participants by personal comments and inputs. The design of the learning materials presented in this program was very convincing. It did inspire and encourage to profound insights. The literature suggested to go on studying after each chapter turned out to be of most value. I highly recommend this course to anyone interested in the subject and to professionals working in the field of counselling, therapy or health care.

This course is outstanding. I'm so grateful to the members of staff who have clearly worked hard to construct an experiential well-being course that can be studied and enjoyed online. The high quality teaching videos allow the knowledge and warmth of individual staff members to be communicated to the student. There are academic papers to be downloaded and studied, all of which are expertly written, but in a way you can understand. There are exercises for you to enjoy and perhaps be challenged by. You'll learn techniques, and gain understanding that you can utilise throughout your life which will increase your well-being. As you can tell, I enjoyed it, and I'm sure you will too.

Normally people ask “how are you?” to greet. In the U.S., I had some colleagues who would ask “how is life treating you?” to greet. This is the kind of difference of perspective this course has revealed to me. Rather than I feeling something, the course indicates that there is something in me that is feeling that feeling to set up a manageable distance between “me” and “my feeling”. Rarely does one find such a comprehensive exposure to the balance of physical (material), social, personal (psychological) and spiritual dimensions. This course was challenging for me. It required a lot of careful practice to truly “experience” the ideas presented. The concept of Focusing sharpened as the course progressed. The most significant aspect of the course was a spiritual foundation that supported all other dimensions. Valuable pearls must be held together by a thread to form a rich necklace. The most significant aspect of the course was a spiritual foundation that supported all other dimensions. Valuable pearls must be held together by a thread to form a rich necklace. The spiritual attitude running across the course has been such an invaluable thread holding the commonly understood valuables of physical, social and personal dimensions. Coining of the term “Existential Trauma” and characterizing it deeply has been a seminal contribution to the field of therapy by the course leader. I feel that if my life is treating me great, then I need this course as a foundation to learn everything else in life more effectively. If my life is not treating me well enough, then this course offers practices and pointers that provide a path to an inner source.

I cannot compare this course to anything else. An overwhelming source of in-depth and lived knowledge. A joy in attending the videos and role plays. I have taken my time to contemplate and reflect. Posting and receiving feedback went very deep. I thank the staff for this huge investment. I thank the students for their openness and sharing. I take with me that tuning into a calm inner space is the foundation for finding the right rhythm in joining the journey of another person. This course feels like a diamond turning and twinkling.

The content of this course is relevant to both professionals and nonprofessionals who wish to increase their sense of well-being. The content is well organized and is amazing for its breadth and depth, its careful construction, and engaging format. The instructors demonstrate good scholarship, in-depth experience in both teaching and therapy, and a professional, yet personal and caring, response to student postings. This course has been life affirming and life changing for me.

My only complaint about this course has to do with the assessments at the end of each section. Many of the multiple choice questions (more than one answer may be correct) are not worded as well as they could be. Several questions across the course are completely open to interpretation and your answer would depend on your specific opinion. This leaves the student wondering what answers are, in fact correct, when all of the choices presented could be right depending on opinion. If assessments are necessary to grade this type of course, they should be essay questions that could be peer graded, or something similar. Other than that, this course is wonderfully presented, the Staff are fantastic writers. The material is engaging and interesting! I would highly recommend this course if you are wanting to expand your perspective on yourself and the world! It has been very very helpful for me, personally.

This is a brilliantly put together MOOC. The quality of the reading material, the instructional videos, the demonstration videos and the exercises and reflections are outstanding. The course exceeded my expectations and I have no hesitation in recommending it. In fact, in today's world a course like this is essential as it - as the title implies - helps to build existential well-being. I want to close-off my review by quoting and excerpt from what I wrote in my goodbye discussion post: "Thank you so much to Mia and her team for making this MOOC such a wonderful experience. There are just so much that I learnt, each of the sections had its own treasures, none can be singled out. And thank you to my classmates, I learnt a lot from your wisdom." When, not if! :), you do the course, savor every part of it - read even the optional material - it is all outstanding - don't rush it.
