Amazing course! English is not my first language, I'm taking this course to learn the vocabulary about the field I'm interested in. The course is very easy to follow, although I have to spend a lot of time to memorize all the new words appearing in the videos and related reading. Very detailed and interesting lectures presented by Dr Johanson. The best course I've ever taken here!

I have been acquainted with ASU Human Origins for a long time online accessing their conferences, etc. I have read Leakey family engagement in East Africa, Richard Leakey in particular, and also Donald Johanson related to the discovery of Lucy of Afar. But, with so much background reading from which I am creating my own books, Homo Migrans, Homo Loquens, Homo Necans as a summary statement of Linnaeus's hierarchic verticality ending up in Homo sapiens. But here in Human Origins the pedagogy of Don, the content of the course, its discursive refinement and story-telling really extraordinary. I never thought Don is a 'teacher' in a class by himself. I am repeating the video episodes to listen to him constantly in order to refine my technical knowledge and the sequential narrative. We live by our stories, Don is one of the best in story telling of such sublime issues touching humanity past, as much future. I won't take the tests, but cho... This brilliant course made me change a lot in my thinking. In particular this concerns my perception of life sciences and scientific discourse. It also made me better grasp the principles and ethics of scientific proof, presentation of information in science. I am grateful to Dr. Johanson and the staff for such a great opportunity to learn how science works.

Fantastic course!! I enjoyed every minute of it. The instructor Prof. Johanson is wonderful, his staff is extremely helpful and there is nothing tricky or misleading about test questions (which is a problem in some of the other classes I've taken). I was thoroughly impressed.

The last time I learned about human evolution I was still in primary school. I wanted to update my knowledge, and there's no better way, than via a course. This one's just amazing. Yes, I learned a lot about human journey, but more importantly, I realized how amazingly fascinating we are, as a species. And how much of us we can see in our cousins. Kudos to the entire team. Also, be prepared - doctor Johanson's passion for the subject is contagious. ;)

Excellent course!!! Well organized, well presented by one of the top paleoanthropologists. Dr. Johanson is a pleasure to listen to and speaks so clearly that he can be understood at 2x speed. You learn a lot of information at a reasonable pace so it's not overwhelming. It is a little more challenging than other MOOCs but so well taught that it is very manageable. They use excellent learning tools and a very fair, though challenging, grading system, unlike some MOOC's. It is a model MOOC and I strongly recommend it if you are at all interested in learning about human origins.

This is one of the best MOOCs on the internet. The discoverer of Lucy - doctor Donald Johanson - delivers a lecture on human evolution, our primate ancestors, higher primates, and finally Homo, in a great teaching style. You'll feel as if you were in a fun documentary, rather than learning facts. The course is a perfect blend of factual knowledge, anecdotes, reading materials, videos and manifestations of real fossils. The quality of video materials is excellent, and the discussion forums are great as well. Professor Johanson had a live session in which he answered student's questions as well, and it was an amazing experience. To continue, you'll learn about paleoanthropological issues, learn to distinguish between various primates, higher primates, and hominins. I've taken this course out of curiosity, and it changed my life for the better: darn, now I want to be a paleoanthropologist! So, if this course has managed to make me a... So, if this course has managed to make me a crazy lunatic babbling all day long about Homo heidelbergensis, it should do that to you. The next run is in March 2016, be sure not to miss it. This is a true, true gem.

This is really remarkable course. I highly recommend this course to anyone who is interested in where we, as a species, came from; and why we were are able to every part of the globe. I doubt you would ever experience such an engaging delivery of a subject which brings to life the conditions of our early ancestors. Included in the course is access to a memory style quiz which helps you remember the key areas. So, you can obtain a high grade,if you practise with memory quiz before the weekly test.

Agree with Kristina, this is a wonderfully well delivered course. The contents are amazing, I babble to whoever wants to listen about bones and characteristics of different primates and hominins :D even to my 2-y.o. boy! As Mr. Johanson points out, he's giving "presentations", not lectures, which means, you are in for the ride whether you are prepared or not. I'm amazed everytime with his language skills, sidenote jokes and anecdotes in order to present not only facts or discoveries, but also the discoverers and their lives in context. Awesome course, I'm deeply thankful for being able to take this course. Thanks ASU (also for the Intro to Solar System!)!!

This is class is utter nonsense full of theories, as oppose to real testable and observable data. God crated the world in 6 days 6000 years ago. If you feel like getting brain washed, please take this class.
