Course Description

Imaging technologies form a significant component of the health budgets of all developed economies, and most people need advanced imaging such as MRIs, X-Rays and CT Scans (or CAT Scans) during their life. Many of us are aware of the misinformation sometimes offered in TV dramas, which either exaggerates the benefits or overemphasizes the risks.

This medical imaging course provides an introduction to biomedical imaging and modern imaging modalities. The course also covers the basic scientific principals behind each modality, and introduces some of the key applications, from neurological diseases to cancers. This course includes modules specially designed for the general public, whilst also providing some advanced modules which could contribute to professional development in health, engineering and IT industries.

It was well-organized to illustrate the concepts and their usabilities for different applications. Also, although it was a introductory level, it was quite better than some other advance level course in the area of biomedical imaging. Everything was clear and Every quiz was rational. Thanks.

Hi, I were a Laboratory Technician. I got a Bachelor Diploma in Biological and medical analysis 2015. I will get a second Bachelor in Animal Biology and Physiology in October 2017. I am now the MRI Technician since March 2017, in a MRI Center of a médical Clinic in Lomé, TOGO. I am also the Manager of that MRI Center. I would want to now if I can use the Certificate earned from this course ()like a Professional Diploma and work like Radiography and medical imaging Technician ?

Content was very informative and well organized. I had some problems with the new words used (english is not my native language), but with dictionary I found my way through the content. Basic physics content was provided in good order and I learned a lot. I liked the "Brian case" we were following in the course. All of the instructors were awesome. I enjoyed the videos, because the instructors were clearly interested in their subjects and their pronunciation was clear. Provider seemed to be ok. I have to say I don't know much about the University of Queensland and there was not much information about the university in the course content.

Excellent information, however I've had trouble understanding with the Australian accent! I am a high school teacher from the United States, taking this course to improve my teaching for a concurrent enrollment Anatomy and Physiology class of seniors.

Very interesting course, I'm a electronics engineering student and I find this very useful to my career. Some instructors made me only read the transcription because the video was so slow in explaination. But everything was good

The course is very interesting. Gives in depth details of the course on certain area. It some instants it gives very basic information for the person unknown to the subject. Liked the course and would take an advance course if available.

Practical application based teaching module is excellent. In coming courses I would request you to put instruction videos for operating the imaging devices( simulation/training )

Well done and really hit all the basics. It was also very interesting and easy to follow along. I would take any other courses along these lines from this group.

I took this course since I'll be switching careers to Radiology Technician soon. It was very informative, easy to follow and well taught. It helped me get an idea of what's to come. I would definitively recommend this course for students/future students.

A quite complete introduction to all the main imaging techniques: simple X-ray, CT, ultrasounds, MRI and PET. For each of them are presented the scientific principles, the technology, the cases of use, examples and the basics of images interpretation. Very accessible and well taught by several different instructors.

Overall the course is very comprehensive and good. I can easily understand the videos and tutorials. Most of the things I have learnt in medical school and I think this is a great revision for healthcare personnels to improve their knowledge in the development of medical imaging and the latest technology.

Course content is excellent, you can work at which level is most comfortable for you, the advanced content will take you above what you need for the certificate, it is accessible to someone who has some science knowledge and the course covers basics. I found that different instructors varied in the level they were teaching at, but that is a minor issue, the material offered is always relevant and instructional. I do wish that there were some way to download pdf's for content, I had to rely on screenshots to review some details. I also have a problem with EdX discussion forums which I find are less accessible than other MOOC's. I don't use them if I can avoid it.

It's what I've learned in my university, but it's more complete! It can increase our knowledge about many kind of biomedical imaging, not only using x-ray but also using magnetic system and others. Also, I really like how it can explain in selecting these imaging based on patient case

This is excellent course for Biomedical students like me, or in general for the curious people out there, who wish to know how the imaging machines in the hospitals work for that matter. The content is very good and covers many detailed topics about the imaging modalities. The discussions tabs provided are really helpful becuase many students can ask questions and get their doubts solved instantly. Overall I feel this course is excellent to gain knowledge of the imaging machines, and also which types of scans are needed when.

The content was straighforward and well-organized. This is a straightforward didactic class in a technical subject (i.e. not a ton of fun), but the lectures were very well done. They made complex material comprehensible, and the really advanced material was wisely ungraded. I wish there had been more opportunity to look at and evaluate images, but in terms of explaining the imaging technologies, this is a good course.

This course is ok, but I'm not very satisfied. It gives basic knowledge about different imaging techniques. I thought that this course will cover digital image processing of medical images including algorithms such as Radon transformation, FBP, CT numbers, etc. Also, I thought that our homework will be to process images using for example MATLAB.

The course content overall was really great. However, the pace of the course had much to be desired. Specifically, the early sections of the course could be accomplished in short order, but then the workload went up to the ceiling and then some during the MRI portion. The lectures were very well done, but it would have been nice to have a TA with advanced subject knowledge, or one of the professors visit the discussion boards.

I found the course content 'fascinating' but at times difficult, probably caused by age. [I am in my 90th orbit of the sun]. The nuclear section was the most interesting part of the course. I have been on 'the receiving end' of a bio medical test and the course made this test better to understand and follow.

A great course well presented. As a subject of biomedical imaging long out of school it helped me to understand the context of the x-rays, MRIs, etc. I experienced nd eard about. Possibly the only course in this field with a plot. Strongly recommend

Some imaging techniques could be more detailed, like the MRI was. I would improve or introduced extended explanations in some (CAT and MRI). I would like to see some other imaging techniques, like, Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)

Course is well designed and includes actual x-rays, cat scans, MRI images, etc. If you have ever been in the medical system for treatment and testing, or know someone who has, this course explains and clarifies the tests that are done and why. Would recommend this course.

Great course for a general understanding of medical imaging technologies. It is suitable for the layman except the MRI section that was overly technical (I want to know what an MRI does and does not do, I don't want to build one). All the other sections covering ultrasound imaging, CT. Pet & SPECT were very well explained and helpful to the non-professional.
