Course Description

This course is part of the Microsoft Professional Program Certificate in Front-End Web Development.

Bootstrap is an open source project originally created by Twitter to enable creation of responsive, mobile first web pages. Bootstrap has a standard set of classes that allow developers to quickly create applications that scale to devices of all sizes, and incorporate common components such as dialog boxes and validation. Bootstrap has become a de facto standard for web design.

This course is designed to be a primer on Bootstrap. By the end of the three modules you will have gained the knowledge to create pages common to all web applications, and implement the most frequently used components and classes provided by Bootstrap. You will also see how to use the tooling provided by Visual Studio to assist you in creating pages as quickly as possible.

I have completed many courses at Edx and want to say that one issue has caused me to provide an extremely poor rating to all categories. The labs have expired and Microsoft and Edx are still promoting this course as part of the MPP Front End Development Certificate. There was no indication, including Syllabus and content deadlines that labs had to meet these deadlines. It is impossible to obtain a verified cert with only 50% and what is the point of paying for a non verifiable certification. Also this causes the whole MPP certification for Front End Web Development to be impossible to obtain. Hope Microsoft and Edx can rectify plus increase the Quality Assurance Process on Courses prior to offering and accepting payment. Cheers Peter Molloy

Great overview of the fundamentals of bootstrap. Concise, to-the-point videos and written material that don't waste your time. This is perfect for anyone with a little html / css experience who wants to build a toolbox for modern, responsive web design. I leave encouraged to learn jquery to add interactivity to the bootstrap elements. My only (minor) issue was I wish the labs were more difficult. They don't really challenge you any further than what's covered in the video examples.

The course is very useful for person that have no idea what the Bootstrap is (like me). The instructor is really good to make the things easy to understand, I hope that he will do other courses in the future! Thanks to that course I start using Bootstrap in my site.

Good overview. Nothing super in depth but gives you a good foundation on what bootstrap is. I enjoyed how it was in visual studio and learned a few shortcuts. Everyone might not like that but I do!

Short yet very thorough intro to Bootstrap. Mr. Harrison presents the material well both in text and in his video lectures. I learned (and remembered!) more in the first unit of this course than the entire Bootstrap course on another site--in large part because of his video presentation and explanations. Looking forward to using Bootstrap in my web dev now and hoping for more classes of this caliber from Microsoft and this instructor.

This course will definitely encourage you to use Bootstrap not because this is from Microsoft but because the lectures and especially the lab exercises here are great. The only hold up is not everything in Bootstrap are covered but at least you will gain a better understanding of the important basics like the grid layout, offsets, navigation menu, accordion and modal. Using visual studio is just optional and you can use any text editor from this course. This course is worth your time and effort I assure you.

Excellent intro, the instructor is engaging and funny. The material is explained thoroughly and the supporting text and links are very helpful. The course is structured well and the Visual Studio support is not required but seems very helpful as well.
