You should have a basic understanding of creating formulas and how cells are referenced by rows and columns within Excel to take this course. If required, you can can find many help topics on Excel at the Microsoft Office Support Site. You are welcome to use any supported version of Excel you have installed in your computer, however, the instructions are based on Excel 2016. You may not be able to complete all exercises as demonstrated in the lectures but workarounds are provided in the lab instructions or Discussion forum. Please note that Excel for Mac does not support many of the features demonstrated in this course.

After taking this course you’ll be ready to continue to our more advanced Excel course, Analyzing and Visualizing Data with Excel.

Very good. Would have been even better if there was a closer connection between video lecture and quiz/lab material. Something like the following: 1. A simple demonstration 2. Exercise similar to demonstration 3. Demonstration of complexities 4. Exercise requiring generalization of complexities. Good job.

Overall, a very good & challenging class, but in some of the videos, some steps were missing & the instructor assumed students already know all the steps. Thanks.

Very satisfied with the course. I was able to understand pretty well with the labs and the instructor. The instructions for labs and quizes were clear, and thanks to the discussion boards, any further questions were solved.

The course content, instructor and provider presented a highly valued experience to anyone willing to learn more about Excel. Certainly, the lab material was more helpful than the quizzes, as in some cases the quizzes were really easy.

it was an amazing experience that i had through this course, combining both a powerful analyzing techniques and huge amount of data to work on, also the exercises helped to reinforce the understanding of materials. it could be better if there is more diversification of topics, although this exists in the next courses(206 & 222).

The information was a very helpful introduction to data analysis using Excel, as the title of the course states. There are some disconnects between course material in the form of videos and exercises vs. the quiz material, and some places where the guidance offered for exercises is insufficient, leaving room for confusion over how to perform the exercise. It could be argued that this is a beneficial way to learn the material, forcing the student to guess/experiment, but in my opinion, creating confusion is not the best approach. Overall, though, I found the course very useful and am confident that I can put what I learned to use.

That was a really handy and enjoyable course. I was afraid to use pivot tables before this course but after the classes I feel much more confident to use this tool. The exercises in the end of the units are also pretty nice to do. Congratulations for the high quality content!

Very good introductory course. I liked the concept of first watching a movie to see how to do the different parts and then to have a quizz to be able to double check that you have learned what you are supposed to learn. Then I also liked that the lab test was on it's own forcing you to really think through what you have learn and to apply it to the lab test.

Quite Good. But wish instructor had explained the SUMIFS function and better with a couple of exercises. How the video image quality if the screen could have been better. The pivot table exercises were helpful to understand the working. Overall great value.

Very good! But I think that an additional guidance video would be great for Excel new users. Sometimes functionalities don't work for me as it was said by the instructor because my version of Excel was not the best possible. It was very hard when it occurred. I encourage all the young learners to do that experience. You won't regret.

Excellent course, easy to follow course content. Instructor and document support is good too. I'm took this course for first course in edX, next 2 in this series is awaiting ahead for me. Thank you for a good course online. I will recommended my co-worker to learn about this course's series to enhance a knowledge about the data analysis plus how we can change a presentation to good looking and easy to understand in the near future.

I took this course as my first attempt at learning about data analysis, it's also my first experience with edX. I'd say that my knowledge of MS Excel was "intermediate", but I never mastered the pivot tables and wanted to learn something about them. This course definitely taught me lots of new things I didn't even know they existed in my version of the software (Excel 2010 ). The structure of the course is very good and the presentation/explanations given by the instructor are very clear. Small mistakes made on the go are actually very helpful, as they make it much more realistic: it so often happens that after you were told everything step by step in a perfect sequence, you get thrown out of balance at the first occasion something goes wrong. Here the pitfalls are shown right away. The course clearly requires some knowledge of the software, but I believe it can be taken by everyone with some prior exposure to the MS Office package.... The examples used in the labs are no-nonsense, which makes it easier to apprehend than some completely abstract set of data. The only complaint would be the video quality: it makes no difference in the lecture part, but in some cases it's hard to figure out the formulas being typed in. It's also worth mentioning that in some localisations the comma symbol has to be replaced with a semicolon for the functions to work at all. I have already recommended this course to a colleague of mine, and I will look forward to take some more courses done by Microsoft. Excellent job, pun intended!

When compared with other edx courses, my experience with this course is completely different. If you're taking the course, don't expect instructor to explain everything in the course. In additional to going through video sessions, students are expected to go through online links and do extra homework. Examples used in the course for illustrating concepts are real world examples! Very useful course, but don't expect spoon feeding. Instructor is able to explain the concepts very clearly. If you have patience and passion to learn, I would recommend this course for you.

Very good Course! I could really learn the technics. With the videos we can see how and why the things are done, but reading the additional texts is indispensable. Sometimes errors appeared in my excel when I downloaded the course tables, but it was not frequently. In general the course was very good, but I´d like to have at least one challenge exercise per chapter.
