Course Description

This course is part of the Microsoft Professional Program Certificate in Front-End Web Development.

jQuery is the most popular library for JavaScript. In this course, you will learn how to use jQuery to add additional power and interactivity to your web pages. You’ll see how to take advantage of jQuery in your web pages, how to work with the HTML document, and even make server-side calls.

Using jQuery, the JavaScript programmer has access to many of the powerful tools common to desktop and mobile developers use, like building event handlers and using effects for a responsive UI, the ability to manipulate your user interface without having to refresh the entire page, and creating asynchronous calls to keep your web application responsive. With jQuery, you’ll be able to take your web pages to the next level!

This is a fantastic introduction to jQuery for those with some web development/javascript experience. Christopher is an excellent communicator of tech know-how...notwithstanding his comically high-pitched voice :-). My only disappointment is that I wish it were longer and covered more material. For example I would have liked to see more on using jQuery to deal with form controls--we all know that the dropdown list is a notorious pain in the butt to deal with in pure javascript. I also would have liked to see maybe a Module 4 on some basic jQuery UI.

The teacher provide some wrong example to revise the concept. It is better than giving the correct answer directly.

If you have little bit prior experience with JQuery then you will understand better.Like you should know class and id of css .As "class and id " is heavily used to access object and then perform some action on it. -Quizes are good. -Short videos are nice. -In Lab you get to apply the topic learned in that week. -Some things are not clear but mostly its good. - $99 is too much . $50 is apt.

I have completed many courses at Edx and want to say that one issue has caused me to provide an extremely poor rating to all categories. The labs have expired and Microsoft and Edx are still promoting this course as part of the MPP Front End Development Certificate. There was no indication, including Syllabus and content deadlines that labs had to meet these deadlines. It is impossible to obtain a verified cert with only 50% and what is the point of paying for a non verifiable certification. Also this causes the whole MPP certification for Front End Web Development to be impossible to obtain. Hope Microsoft and Edx can rectify plus increase the Quality Assurance Process on Courses prior to offering and accepting payment. Cheers Peter Molloy

If you need to quickly ramp up on jQuery, take this course. It will walk you through to help understanding how to do simple things. The instructor is great! I wish there was a bit more content.

This course provides a thorough introduction to jQuery, and packs a good bit of learning and practical work into a short time. Christopher Harrison is an awesome instructor - clear, concise, and exact in his language. I like that the course starts with a basic practical coding exercise that you build upon, and especially that all exercises are peer reviewed. I learned a good bit from reviewing other student's solutions.

Excellent course! Interesting teacher, a very clear presentation of the material, a clear exposition of the fundamentals. Labs somewhat difficult, but it is even more interesting.

A challenging, well-delivered course that assumes a solid knowledge of HTML and javascript, to provide a comprehensive overview of jQuery, and a working understanding of key concepts like DOM manipulation, asynchronous operation, and Ajax. Items particularly worthy of note: 1) Key concepts were thoroughly, and very clearly explained. 2) Labs were challenging; neither token exercises, nor overwhelming. Most highly recommended.

Very interesting course with an amazing teacher (Mr. Harrison). Maybe a way to get this even more interesting would be a longer course with a full-scale project at the end.

The weight of final exam is too heavy. No forum support and this course take more time than mentioned. Maybe 5 hour per week.

Bad course with too difficult labs. The exams are too easy. Microsoft courses are below average on edX.

I could not enroll even though I just got an email from edX inviting me to enroll. entering this comment was not easy and took many tries. Just using the platform costs more than it is worth [i.e. zero]

Why does this course state it is current but after enrolling states it closed in Oct? Seems very annoying to HAVE to put 100 characters in a review!

I never though learning about jQuery could be that fun! Loved the teaching style, and the labs were a great touch in doing things yourself. I'd suggest splitting the course into 3 more weeks, since the last two were a bit difficult to grab in short time. There should also be a separate deadline for evaluation - having all projects due at the same time, including evaluating, is a bit too much. Even though this is a minor remark, I'm hoping for more courses like these, and I'll be sure to check out the bootstrapping one as well. Great job!
