Course Description

This course is part of the Microsoft Professional Program Certificate in Data Science.

Python is a very powerful programming language used for many different applications. Over time, the huge community around this open source language has created quite a few tools to efficiently work with Python. In recent years, a number of tools have been built specifically for data science. As a result, analyzing data with Python has never been easier.

In this practical course, you will start from the very beginning, with basic arithmetic and variables, and learn how to handle data structures, such as Python lists, Numpy arrays, and Pandas DataFrames. Along the way, you’ll learn about Python functions and control flow. Plus, you’ll look at the world of data visualizations with Python and create your own stunning visualizations based on real data.

Instructor was excellent: clear, concise, and thorough. Even as an introductory class, though, this course struck me a rather basic and cursory coverage of Python. Regular section assessments were good, but you really should provide a mechanism for feedback on the Final Exam to let students know where they lost points.

Wonderful, clear, and concise, thanks for the effort. Filip was friendly, and nice, thank you:) I found most of the exercises easy but still was practical to learn the content.

Basic introductory course to python, instructions were clear and concise. However, final lab was a significant jump in difficulty as compared to the normal lectures and labs, which were simply too easy. Overall, greater details needed as the content barely scratches the surface of python. For those with a basic understanding of other programming languages, this course will be too easy for you.

The instructor is excellent: very clear and inspiring to learn more at the end of each chapter. Quizzes and lab exercices are perhaps too easy when compared to the final lab ones, specially if you have some previous experience in other computer programming languages. The platform is clear and user friendly. The final exam is not too difficult provided that you have worked with all the materials of the course. All in all, I'm very satisfied of this course and will try to continue learning with edX courses.

As an introduction to Python I found the topics were explained clearly and in a concise manner. I found the quizzes and chapter labs a bit too easy especially considering that the final lab significantly increased the difficulty level requiring functions/commands that were not addressed in the course. Sure they were in the further reading material but I do not consider that material (basically the different packages manuals) suitable for someone completely new to programming (which is not my case) when the course did not require any previous programming experience. Having said that, I enjoyed the course and the platform is very easy to use and intuitive.

don't take this, they rip content straight from datacamp problems are $99 dollars far outcharging datacamp prices and the speaker simply cites word for word what datacamp says. this course is obviously sponsared by datacamp and is probably an ad for the website. datacamp is a solid website and it's better to get the info from datacamp straight then third party edx branded as "microsoft".

Really interesting course, first of this area in my case. Found the lectures and the exercises interesting and easy to follow, in contrast final lab was much harder...! Really difficult to solve. Exam was good and found everything i needed... maybe some more feedback when we fail!

Good content, however final exam is contrastingly different from the basics. Nonetheless, instructor, content, and learning materials were helpful, accompanied by friendly user-interface. Great course to pick up

Good intro level, however may seem too easy and superficial, very basic, has to be accompanied by deeper self-learning. Final lab differs too much in terms of depth of material compared to quiz and labs after the lessons, still nothing super challenging but contrasting

No offence, instructor on screen is distracting, his English slang may not be understood by some, can learn from SQL course on vedio presentation style. In exercise, some instruction are not clear, have typo mistake or missing words. Else, it is a great course, as I learn a lot here. Thanks

The course seemed great throughout the presentation modules. Then, when you get to the Final Lab and the Final Exam, you are completely blindsided. The modules were not adequately developed to prepare you for the finals. I had 100% through all modules. The Final Lab required hours of Google research to complete but was at least attainable because there was no time limit. I struggled to a 98%. Then you get to the Final Exam and you are timed. It is not only a four hour exam, but each question only allows four minutes. After the Final Lab, I prepared myself for the Final Exam by consolidating the slides and labs into a pretty concise cheat sheet. To no avail, the Final Exam still included many questions that could only be inferred from what was covered. I passed with an 84% but felt cheated. I'm not sure if I really got a basic understanding as the modules predicted or if I am woefully unprepared to move forward as the ... The course seemed great throughout the presentation modules. Overall, I was very disappointed. I have taken several other Microsoft classes on edX and never had this type of issue. I will be much more cognizant of the reviews before I ever sign up for another!

This gives a basic introduction to Python, and is enough to get you going in using it for Data Science courses. The setup with iPython in the labs was good to allow you to experiment with code before committing your answers.

Excellent course which is concise and straight to the point with relevant practice exercises. The only down side to this course is that it is very basic in nature and sometimes as a beginner you need the extra knowledge to gain interest and confidence. Personally, I would recommend this course to someone who has prior knowledge to python like me because this course is not an introductory to python but to data science !

In general, the course was helpful overall for learning some of the basics of Python programming. I took this course as I familiar with C, but had not learned Python. Good introduction to Python; however, there is a major problem with this course. The final lab portion of this course is incomplete. For the final lab, there is a specific data set that the instructions say is provided to you; however, when your code tries to load this file, you receive an error message saying the file does not exist which makes it impossible to finish that particular part of the section. It doesn't factor into the overall grade that much, but does prevent someone from learning those skills.

I loved the course , but could have little bit more in depth so that confidence will come while solving problems in real world. Instructor was damn good , precise and perfect. Final is is bit tough not exactly related to the course taught but yes if you have practice from different sources it will have, overall its good.

Very Understandable, the content is perfect for people who are beginners in using python for data science but must have a basic knowledge of general python especially data types, variables and mathematical operations. It's just an introductory course with links for further reading.

The course was "OK" throughout all the modules. I have some experience in R and this helped me. I would have struggled more without any coding experience. The MATERIAL provided for each module could have been better. They slides contained really little info and make it hard to review the content. The INSTRUCTOR was not always easy to understand, but the script help with that. THE FINAL LAB WAS AWFUL: most of the content was not covered in the modules, and I had to do long research by myself to get some of it done. After spending 7 hours on it I gave up; I asked for help and none was given. For the LABS in general, the feedback provided for each exercise in response to mistakes were most of the time inaccurate, wrong, and unhelpful. Again, I had to rely on google. The labs should have covered more scenarios, instead they were really superficial and didn't prepared me well for the final exam. The FINAL EXAM had several quest... The FINAL EXAM had several questions asking for code that was not fully explained in the modules. For instance, in the module they teach you to extract 1 element from a data-frame, while in the exam the ask you to extract multiple elements from specific columns and rows of the data-frame. I passed the exam, and my overall passing grade was 91/100, but I think I got very limited learning.

The course is introductory, but the assessment is beyond what the course taught. The course alone is not enough to pass the evaluations and you need to study and practice beyond the class. Class alone can make you overconfident. During the final exam, the course failed, but I could restore it quickly.

For a person that has no experience with Python before but has experience in programming in general, this course has a good content. Something to learn in Lab as well that didn't get covered by the instructor. I am just missing a feedback from the Final Exam, where did I do wrong and what the correct answer to it. Also, during Final Exam in Data Lab, I encountered "errors" multiple times, especially when I need to try the code.

Course: challenging for an absolute beginner like me. "Further Readings": referenced sites very useful in the labs. Labs/assessments: available when you pay for certification. Final Labs are challenging and require some wit and online research skills since many of problems require info not explicitly taught in the lectures. After completing the quizes and labs (and maybe a quick review of the lecture videos/notes) you'll be well prepared for the Final Assessment. If you're a beginner, be patient and stick with it. You can do this!
