Course Description

This course is part of the Microsoft Professional Program Certificate in Data Science.

Python is a very powerful programming language used for many different applications. Over time, the huge community around this open source language has created quite a few tools to efficiently work with Python. In recent years, a number of tools have been built specifically for data science. As a result, analyzing data with Python has never been easier.

In this practical course, you will start from the very beginning, with basic arithmetic and variables, and learn how to handle data structures, such as Python lists, Numpy arrays, and Pandas DataFrames. Along the way, you’ll learn about Python functions and control flow. Plus, you’ll look at the world of data visualizations with Python and create your own stunning visualizations based on real data.

Instructor was excellent: clear, concise, and thorough. Even as an introductory class, though, this course struck me a rather basic and cursory coverage of Python. Regular section assessments were good, but you really should provide a mechanism for feedback on the Final Exam to let students know where they lost points.

The course was fine, a little bit too easy though. Then the Final Lab came along and destroyed me... we didn't learn at least 60% of the material on that lab! Totally unfair.

Great course on Python and Data Science basics. I learned a lot. If you put into the time and effort, you'll be rewarded. Make sure to work through the Final Labs and search new concepts/read documentation/practice as much as you can. You wouldn't regret when it comes to final exam - it's harder than previous labs and has a few new concepts esp. related to numpy to pandas. Good luck!

The course was good, but it starts very basic and easy and suddenly the exams and final labs get a lot harder with mistakes in text and even an image in the exam not showing. Also I registered and within a few weeks I had to complete all material and make the exam.

The evaluations included material that was not part of the course. The course covered much less than what is available from other online providers. I took this course to fulfill a requirement for a Microsoft professional certificate, and I am dismayed that Microsoft would use a course of this low quality.

Great course, the instructor was excellent and precise. The assessment was thorough and encompassed all that was taught by the instructor and i like the idea of getting to know ore tricks as you run through the lab. The knowledge checks could be better though, I feel it is too easy and straightforward. I like the videos, short and precise, you would have to be an extremely lazy individual to get bored watching because it only takes a few minutes I feel Datacamp or Edx could do better with the documentation though, they look too complex, jam-packed and boring. I think it will be better if Datacamp or Edx can help with the documentation by streamlining it, and taking away the extravagances making it suitable, appropriate, readable and explanatory enough for an introductory class. Nevertheless, it is a great course for a introductory class or anyone starting their python journey in Data science. It will help build a solid foundation, o... Basic course. Could take a "free" course and learn all the same stuff. Content was decent enough though, however, throughout the quizzes and labs you are asked questions about information you were not taught at all. I would not take this course again if asked to; not worth the time/money to do so.

Course is too basic to spend that much money. Course is great for beginner to get a feel of Python and Data Science but not value for money too basic course. It should have been a free course even spending 10 dollar is no justice for other instructor who are providing much more advance course for free.

One of the worst experiences I've had on EdX. You can't do anything without a separate window open to search for what they want you to do, because 90% of what is expected of you isn't taught to you. ESPECIALLY at the end.

I had no previous knowledge of Python yet I thought the course was fairly easy to follow. The final exam was very difficult for me as I did not feel adequately prepared to confidently answer questions in 4 minutes after practicing the application of each subject matter only once or twice.

excellent instructor, amazing python integrated lab environment, and a good place to begin for prospective data scientists. the course highlights the value of practice as the best way of learning/coding in python through her regular labs, exercises and further reading materials provided.

This is a great course to understand the basic functionalities of Python for Data Science. As the title says. Although, the difficulty of the quizzes and labs after each lesson are way too easy compared to the final labs and exam...

Many thanks for your course! The content was perfect for its learner's level. But, it was sorry that it didn't explain a good amount of functions in numpy or pandas, which are both well-used packages in data analysis. If the course could change to it, the class would be more useful!

This is a good course, however I would have liked more to see more topics of real data science instead of basics of python, the main problem with the course is that it has some problems with certain mistakes in the labs, you should correct that.

Content: Very easy, designed for people that have never programmed before. Instructor: Has a wide knowledge on the subject, however, he does not explain everything he knows. Provider: Excellent, you do not need to download anything; the course has everything at your disposal.

About the content: It is a good introduction for someone that has never programmed before. The only thing maybe the final exam was a little bit too easy. About the Instructor: very good, he made concise video with the important things. About the provider: It was very good organized, also because you don't have to download anything. In fact the esercises and exam were all on a separate interface (datacamp) which was also very good and easy to use.

A wonderful introductory course for those, who want to start playing with Python. Labs provide students with the opportunity to learn key topics in an interactive manner. The final lab is especially challenging. At the same time it demonstrates the plethora of Python methods and tools which makes this language indispensable for data scientists. As far as a mechanism for feedback and review of mistakes in the Final Exam, mentioned in the previous review of the course made by Student, is concerned, if it were in place, it would be really useful, as it could enable the enrolled participants to pay greater attention to certain topics.

This course was great. Difficult concepts are explained really well and the labs are great. I was a little surprised by some new concepts in labs, but realized that this helped me learn to look up what I needed on other sites. I definitely recommend this course for anyone who's taking first steps into Data Science

A good course but the Lab exams were much harder than what was presented in the course. You wouldn't be able to do them without access to the internet/support docs. Maybe that's the point though?? Presenter was good and knew his stuff and was enthusiastic

The instructor was highly motivated and the way he presented the topics were in the very basic level for me the capture the topics easily. I will continue to learn more on the Data Science aspect of Python. Thanks to every one of you for such a wonderful course.

The overall experience of the curriculum was very good for me and I enjoyed using datacamp lab environment. The instructor was very clear and precise I was able to understand all the concepts. The videos were of very good quality and they have given lot of options for you to explore . The only difficulty that i faced is that for some exercices you have to answer exactly as it is in the algorithm or you'll encounter an error. I enjoyed learning. Hope you will too :)

Excellent course. Thank you Microsoft and team, you've done a great job here. Hit all the marks, compassionate, thorough, well-crafted and designed. User-friendly, thoughtful, concise and effective. I'm already doing analytics after this course. And agreed with other commenters, some aspects of the final lab were difficult and took quite some time to solve due maybe to idiosyncratic or stylistic matters rather than conceptual or fundamentals. But that's just a minor critique.

If you rely on the course material alone you'll never pass. The course is relatively easy for the first 4/5ths and then throws a whole bunch of concepts at you which were not covered in any of the tutorial material in the final labs!

Very nice course, well made, and accessible for foreign students. As i had basics on Python, the begining was a a bit too easy. The labs are intuitives, the quizzes are a bit easy, the final exam is nice too. the Final lab are the most interesting ones, i was pushed to find solutions on the python documentation.
