It's best for the people who doesn't have any knowledge in R but having the curiosity to learn and apply R skills in day-to-day life for simple problems. Overall it's a very good course for starters.

An introductory course, which encertains everyone, to learn the statistical software R. It is clearly taught by the instructor and assignments are fun to do! Every topic uses another "data source", which gives a feeling for what you do and makes topics interesting. I could recommend everyone to at least audit this course, as it really gives a nice starting point in programming with R. More advanced users can use it as well to work more structured and improve readability of graphs you make using R.

Its a very nice course for starters. I would recommend it for anyone willing to learn R. If certification price could be reduced then that would be great.

Some questions in the lab were not covered in any detail in the course videos. For example in the final lab of graphics we are asked to used the text () function. It is only mentioned on the last slide of the video as a example of various functions available in R. This repeatedly happens in all labs. How can I be assessed on something not covered? Also I am using r studio at the same time as the course video to type in examples as they are being covered. It would be nice if the data sets quoted in the video are available to import into R Studio so I can focus on what is being taught

Recommended if you are new to R and need to get a feel of its capabilities. Personally, I will proceed to more advanced data analysis and statistics. The course "Foundations of Data Analysis - part 1: Statistics using R" seems like a sensible next step.

I'm an aspiring ecologist and anticipate that a lot of my work will deal with workloads of analysis using myriad of tools used in bioinformatics and ecological modelling. This course definitely jumpstarted my knowledge/skills in R. I hope an advanced course can be offered for free; it would be great way to prepare myself for much more complex analysis.

Excellent course and truly provides exactly what an individual needs to start working with R. I have taken other intro to R courses, but this one is far the best!

I enjoyed this course immensely. I'd previously taken another course on R but it didn't explain the underlying concepts anywhere near as well as this one. A great introduction! One issue I kept having was that I clicked "Next" in the labs before I got the green message that the score had been sent successfully. It was easy enough to go through and repeat the labs (the answers were cached) but it would easy to miss and wonder why you hadn't received the points. Perhaps the "next" button shouldn't be clickable until the score has been sent to edX?

Short, concise videos are what drew me to this course. I'm taking it for work, so being able to complete this in a week or two was really important. I thought this course did a good job of covering the basics without overly complicating anything.

Good Introduction. Covered the basics well. The work-space is well organized Please consider adding import and export of data which will be the actual usage of R for real application.

Within 2 weeks I had finished this course(quid : its content is intellectually stimulating and addicting). In addition, the cases used in the lab exercises are very instructive.

This course was really helpful to start my journey towards R. They have explained the basics with enough details so that I can take on the advanced course with ease. The DataCamp simulation tool with the lab was very helpful to get my hands on real R code. Kudos to Microsoft and DataCamp for conducting this course!

Very enthousiastic about this course. Instruction videos are great. But after completion of this course I have a feeling I am only beginning to scratch the surface of what R can do. It started to get interesting in block 7. Lost some points in the exam because I did not have enough time per question sometimes.

Quite Helpful. I was new to R programming. The pace of the course was very good and it was like a building blocks course. The sequence of short video, quiz and lab exercise was quite structured.

It would have been better if we could be told about some of the functions which were in the exercise and not in the video lesson and vice-versa. Since it was an introductory course, I wasn't aware of all the functions and had to google information from time to time.

It is a great course for beginners. Prior to this course, I read a few sections of manuals for R myself, and just completed the final exam. I got immediate responses from both the course forum and the edX support when I had a problem to open the final exam. Look forward to having more online courses at edX.

It was well structured, nicely presented and easy to follow. I liked the way it introduced the fundamentals, and then built on them systematically. The environment worked well, and it was nice doing the interactive labs. (The examples used in the labs were fun too.)

It was a great course. All is well explained. Videos and subtitles allow everybody that comes from many countries understand this course. Many exercices apply each item and allow to exercise himself. I am very satisfyed by it. Thank you very much.

For me, it was a first encounter with R, altough I do have Matlab and Python experience. I feel like I have learned all the basics in an efficient way with this course. Also, the coupling to datacamp is very valuable. The instructor and it presentations are clear and very complete.

This course is well paced to ease learning and one can immediately apply the learning hands on to get better practice. It is one of a kind course and ensures understanding of topics irrespective of whether one knows programming or not. I'd highly recommend this course to any one planning to learn R. This has excellent value.

This was my first online course and I'm impressed. While I have only basic (VBA) coding experience, I found the content easy to follow and learn. It's easy to forget details you hear briefly in a video lecture, but the course was well-designed in providing just enough repetition to serve as a reminder. It was always appropriate. One small consideration: sometimes the English language used in lab exercises caused unnecessary confusion. On the positive side, that just forced me to pay more careful attention. I'll use the information I've gained from this course (and others to come) to improve my communications consulting practice. Thanks edX!

Excellent introductory course. I've attempted several before, but they all seemed to jump too far ahead. This one takes you incrementally and provides you with the actual basic. I feel I can now confidently move to an intermediate level of R.

Very high-quality all-around - it's clear that Fillip and the course organizers in general put a lot of effort into organizing this course. The editor/interpreter was remarkably well-coded to anticipate possible errors and return informative responses to guide our training. The little things - the videos alongside the transcripts (clickable to advance the video), the inclusion of original source matrices or data frames in an inset at top of screen as Fillip discussed further manipulation -- made all the difference. The lab exercises and quizzes were just the right balance of being challenging but doable. A couple exercises perhaps were overextended or without adequate prior introduction of the necessary functions or arguments, but such issues were at worst minor and few-and-far-between. I already had a decent grasp of R programming from my fellowship work in bioinformatics, but this course did a fantastic job of complementing that occupational-based training and filling in the gaps, which was exactly my objective with the class. This is very well put together. -- J. Wes Ulm, MD, PhD
