Course Description

We often have firmly held beliefs about why people think and behave the way they do. Sometimes our intuitions are correct, but often they are not.

Social psychology helps us understand how people think about themselves and other people and what motivates their behaviour in social settings.

This course explores a range of topics in social psychology, from how we think about ourselves, how we think about others, and how we interact and communicate with others. We will also discuss the ways that we can influence others and be influenced by others. Finally, we look at some problematic aspects of human behaviour, such as prejudice and aggression.

You should take this course if you are curious about why we behave the way we do.

Some of the topics are informative. Useful to someone who wants to review basic sociology. I think edx is a good platform. It's unfortunate that free certificates are no long offered for most courses.

Best course I've ever taken. Persuaded me to write this review although I never write any reviews. Review must contain at least 100 characters

Really a great course. All the contents of this course are really so knowledgeable. The instructors are so cool, as their way of expressing the topics are so impressive. And last but not the least, the provider of this course, designed the course in a very effective way. Thanks for making this course. Really, before going through this, I didn't know even what is social psychology, but now I can easily explain anybody about the same.

I really enjoy this course so much it's easy for me to understand, full of a lot of helpful information. The instructor gets right to the point not throwing in a bunch of useless information or droning on about things that aren't important.

I had done a Social Psychology MOOC earlier. This one has been more challenging and detailed. The activities asking learners to make a guess in a variety of polls and then revealing the thought processes in explanatory videos is an educational idea teachers can mimic around the world for all types of courses. The rhythm of delivery of instructors is so captivating along with the sense of humor that the learning sticks for a long time in mind, and it becomes practically useful almost immediately. Just today, I had to write an impromptu essay on "adjusting everywhere" at somebody's request, and I could use the concept of Reciprocity to explain how we can use it to show adjustment in relationships to reduce stress. Overall, a fantastic course.

I started this course as a 'Tester' to see if firstly if I enjoy it and secondly whether I am capable of doing it. I must admit it is not a walkover. It has been challenging & demanding. It takes mores time than was suggested BUT please do not let that put you off. I have truly enjoyed the course and continue to do so. obviously I am going to remember all of the content but the fact of the matter is; It's Educational & fun. what more could one ask? So in conclusion; I am going to persevere and might even go for the certificate. Or do I get a certificate as a reciprocation gesture for writing a OUTSTANDING review, without a fee, from your University? :)

I think it is great that I can take inspiring and high quality psychology courses at Queensland University from my hometown Leiden in the Netherlands. I majored in Social & Organization Psychology in the Netherlands back in 1996 and enrolled in 3 Queensland University MOOC's (Introduction to Clinical, Developmental en Social Psychology) this summer to refresh my knowledge. Thank you edX and Queensland University for making this course available in such an entertaining, inspiring and professional way. I would recommend this course to everybody who is passionate about psychology (or want's to become passionate about psychology)!

I think the course is almost perfect: the way the content is synthesized and presented is very good. However, it could provide more reading materials apart from scientific articles. The "find out more" section is almost entirely made of wikipedia links. Also, the questions in the quizzes are too easy and do not the student think. Those are the only cons I found as of now. Thank you for making this available :)

It is the first online course I ever attended to, so I can't compare to a lot of others. But I really think that I'm learning a lot. The course instructors seems to be very comitted to the subject and especially Blake masters to produce funny videos without being ridiculous. Thanks a lot to the University Of Queensland for making this course possible.

This is a great course and I like the style of learning with videos, tasks and assessments. As a Brit living in the UK I feel very at home with an Australian university as some of the terms that are used are the same as in the UK. Both Blake and Roy give excellent talks and are masters of their subjects as well as good lecturers. The course has been put together well and the software is very good.

Where comprehensive introduction course. Of course it did not turn me into a brilliant psychologist overnight. But it is very educational and insightful. It will also help you stay away from scams in marketing and advertising and sales. And we thought lawyers were the scum of earth. Look at these sales and advertising guys. I have scored consistently 70% throughout the various course subjects. I am very grateful for this course and insight from experts in the field. Thank you EDX and Australia.

The content is very interesting to one who has spent considerable time on the selling side of life - seeing the psychological reasoning behind many of the things we were taught/learned. By the way Blake should discover the difference between marketing (getting the goods and services in front of the consumer) and selling (getting the consumer to cough up the readies. I t would be better if Blake had the confidence to present his knowledge more directly instead of interrupting the flow by constantly quoting studies when it is not helpful - the results are all that is normally needed in his presentation - the attributions can be in the end notes. It would be useful if the interviewees were introduced beforehand regarding their role and experience. this is a well-thought program given that human beings are social by nature and their lives entail constant interactions. it definitely open ways to enable us master our behavior and eventually impact a positive influence on others through our behavior.
