The course lays out the foundations of the Data Science journey in a well structured manner. The course content and handouts are helpful, and the instructors share some valuable insights and good explanations about how a data science problem can be tackled and how can insights be derived from the data. The only part which I found difficult is the statistics, especially so because some concepts are new to me. But this course urges you to seek explanations for those new concepts on your own, and this serves as a driving factor. Looking forward to the other courses.

Excellent introduction from a program and technology/tools perspective. However, it assumes that you have prior knowledge or reasonably good foundation in statistics, otherwise many of the concepts presented will be difficult to grasp. I suggest that this course is preceded by introduction to statistics as a first course in the MPP program.

the instruction is hard to follow because it assumes you know a lot of excel functionality. Instructors are at times confusing because terms will be used interchangeably.

The course seems fairly good for a simple introduction to statistics. It focuses mostly on how to accomplish different tasks in excel rather than explaining how and why statistical equations function. Of course, I assume this is because they're only trying to show basic concepts, and that you don't need to understand the math in order to find interesting info in Data Science (which I would contest is not the case). Basically, I hope there's a further more in-depth course on how and why these statistical methods work, or else I'll just have to find a stats course on edx and do it on my own time. It would also have been nice to know the tech requirements for the course prior to getting to the lab which says that you need Excel 2016 (and if you don't have it, they suggest you use a one-month free trial). If I continue on in the MPP, I hope further courses lay out what you'll need to complete the course (SQL Server 2016 for the Quer... If I continue on in the MPP, I hope further courses lay out what you'll need to complete the course (SQL Server 2016 for the Querying Data with Transact-SQL course). Other than that, the info was useful, but it's not been taught in a way that it could be truly understood, but rather mimicked. This is a good course for functional learning, but is not very thorough in describing why what you're doing works, or even how.

You went way too fast on the t-tests and the other metrics. Only because I have a strong background on stats could I tell why the tests were or were not significant. You don't explain how the F distribution looks like, and you don't say how that differs from a t-distribution, or why we should take your word for it that a t-dist looks like a z-dist. I know all of that, but to people not fresh or strong in stats those things will fly over their heads. Please pay some more attention to those areas.

It was a very methodical, accurate, and well structured course material. Both the instructors were painstaking, knowledgeable, and had smiling pleasant personalities. edx.org is a great organization, totally dedicated to further education, without greed and discrimination of any kind; a boon to every hungry for knowledge, and not so financially well-off student... My best wishes and prayers for them!

The course content is completely relevant, the examples used are very illustrative, the strucutre of the course allows good continuity, supporting learning. The authors show deep knowledge about the topics and explain everything clearly and straigthforwardly. My only comment is that the dataset used as an example is different from the downloadable one, which may create confusion. Other than that, I only have positive comments about this introductory course, so I absolutely recommend it.

The content for Data Science Orientation is perfect. At the moment of taking the test - by the end- was when I realized that it is beneficial following/repeating the course videos with the hands on in the excel in your machine. So, the concepts earned will stick thru the test.

The examples given by the instructors were easy to understand despite the very complex concepts of statistics that needed to be explained. The pace of the discussion was good for me.

Overall a well put together course. Good pace with well presented material. It would be use to either do a quick statics review or provide the handout earlier in the lectures for a better understanding of items during the presentation.

Great introduction to statistics and Excel's tools. I was very familiar with about a third of the information. The other third was very clearly taught and I now feel I am competent in those areas.

Its a good way to begin this journey. However, I feel the course should include introduction to more sophisticated material by explaining the difference between concepts such as Statistical Learning and Machine Learning. Overall, its not bad at all.

This course provides a gentle introduction to the concepts without overwhelming the learner. Newcomers to data science should find they are able to complete the course during the single two-day weekend. The final lab contains a couple errors based on the material presented by the instructors mostly likely due to changes in the versions of Microsoft Excel - Microsoft Excel 2016 is the currently available version for learners; the instructional videos possibly are Microsoft Excel 2013.
