It was awesome to attend this class under Prof Jonathan S Weissman. Prof Weissman is a great teacher and motivator. Though I have been working in IT industry fairly many years but I was not a Cyber security professional. This course gave me a great insight on Network Security and a motivation to learn more on cyber security. Prof Weissman is not only a great teacher he is also a great motivator. It has been a great pleasure to attend class under him and wish to take some more classes.

Great lecturer Prof. Jonathan S. Weissman. You're enthusiastic and clear in all your explanations. I truly enjoyed your delivery of the entire course. I now can claim I know more than I did before and I'm very thankful. I also enjoyed the use of lecture videos, animations and demos which clarified most confusing bits and pieces of the course.

discussion posted a day ago by srouse1393 Thank you Professor Weissman, along with the team who contributed making this course a success, Rochester Institute of Technology and also to edx.org. I really enjoyed this course and this have opened my eyes more to the world of IT security. Joke: My wife has become a bit annoyed with me because of all the security measures I have implemented in our lives..LOL

The Instructor ( uppercase I ) Prof. Weissman has a great way to teach and his enthusiasm bring to life his classes. It was a great luck for me and my classmates to have him as a teacher. The content is suitable for such a course introducing the topic and I had fun experimenting hands on labs. Also, the interface, tools and resources of edX had their part in an enjoyable and valuable learning experience. Thank you Prof Weissman, rit and edX staff and classmates

This course is very similar to attending a class at University. The content was fantastic and was on the mark. The MicroMasters is worth your time and effort if you want to learn about Cyber Security. Professor Wiessman is so engaging and simplifies learning a complex topic. He cares about his students and he passionate about teaching. Well done RIT for taking this leap with us! Thank you so much!

A great influencer, mentor and teacher who made this journey really exciting and motivated to be engaged to this micro masters programme. The first stepping stone of Cyber Security Fundamentals where I found him as one of the best tutor I ever met and his true word of 'once a student always a student' shows his inner beauty and a good human being. A true infectious passion of learning he contributed throughout is just amazing. My best wishes and hope to meet again soon.

Thanks very much for the fantastic course, I started the course to round out my experience and discovered a lot of things along the way. The videos were excellent, the diagrams and charts presented really helped to get the concepts. The exercises backed up the lecture content, many of the tools we used in the activities I have added to my toolbox! Thank You, Professor Weissman and edX!

What a collected and step-by-step approach by Prof. Weissman! I have been able to quickly learn and implement the concepts in my organization and other's. The most important reason you should take this course is if you have anything to do with technology- student, teacher, enthusiast or a professional. It will equip you with the tools to stay safe in an online world!

What an amazing learning experience - hands down the best security class I've taken online or on premise). The video lectures, graphics and demos are the perfect length and filled with every detail needed to complete the labs. Professor Weissman takes very complex topics (e.g cryptography) and makes them very simple to understand even to the layman like me. I recommend this class to anyone that wants to learn about current cyber security topics and how to use the tools of the trade. Great Class Don't Miss It!

This course is probably the most refined and best delivered online course I have ever attended. Prof. Weissman's enthusiasm is unbounded, and it comes across with such vigor in his delivery. The content was amazing - the animations, in particular, helped explain the examples thoroughly. And of course, the activities and quizzes were at the correct level of intricacy and challenge. There is also major overlap between this course and my sysadmin position in my current employment, it's uncanny. This course could not have come at a perfect time. I wish it went on for a few more weeks... Not only was the delivery excellent, but there were a few "jaw-dropping" moments, which, like most shocks, gets the point across. Highly recommend this and the entire micromasters if you were considering a change in career, or as I am doing, adding cybersecurity to my sysadmin "utility belt". ("I'm Batman!") ;)

It was a very informative, interesting class in RITx504. This was truly one of those classes where you got out what you put into the class. The video lectures were succinct and informative while being interesting with the focal effects and main words presented on the screen. The video walk-through of the hands on exercises were a real help to someone like myself where many of the activities represented my first exposure to the techniques and programs. And what did I get to take away from this class? Two personal virtual labs (one in VMware and one in VirtualBox), a full-featured network simulator (Packet Tracer) and leads to other free courses from Cisco, Offensive Security and Lynda.com to continue my studies. I learned a lot, had a good time doing so. That is, to me, is a successful class outcome. This is one of those classes where you have to put in considerable time and effort but the results are quite worthwhile.

Professor Weissman does a great job of honing volumes of material to that which is most important - and conveying it in a digestible volume and manner. As one of perhaps many of those taking the course - our personal and professional lives consume a huge amount of our time - it's difficult to find higher-end ways (vs. blogs/articles) to advance our knowledge. The structure of the course, i.e., videos, transcripts and hands-on were perfect for being able to slot the course requirements into our own available time. His presentations were enthusiastic (to say the least and certainly punny at times....) all of which helped me to survive the dry topics - and race through the really interesting ones and associated activities and also provided motivation to do some additional exploration of the excellent additional resources provided. This is the 2nd course I've taken with him - and look forward to the 3rd coming up in January.

The course is superb. The lectures explain the topics very clearly, step-by-step and the activities allow you to practice what you've been learning the theory of, with everything you need for the activities being available free on the internet. I learned a lot and really enjoyed the course. It's one of those few courses where learning is really good fun at the same time. And yet you are learning a very important and serious subject. There was personalized feedback when you had problems, which was a very nice surprise. I would recommend this course to anyone interested in cybersecurity, provided that they have already completed the CYBER501x course or already have equivalent knowledge. There is a warning about that in the "Welcome" video. I had done CYBER501x, so I was OK, but without what I had learned in that course I would have been completely lost. For those who have completed CYBER501x, this course is easier and more interest... The course is superb. In 1997-1998 I graduated from a post polytechnic course on Client-Server systems. Back in the days computer technology was not that advanced as it is today. The course was a theoretical book only course with no practical on-hand facilities. Although I finalized and was able to explain to some extent how to walk I could not actually walk. These courses CYBER501x, CYBER502x, and CYBER504x brought back memories but most importantly it at least learned me to walk a little. The activities where awesome! Hopefully after make the capstone somewhere next year I’ll be able to walk somewhat faster even run a little. Not as fast as Michael Johnson but that is not where I aiming at. Keep up the good work; we will meet again next year.

Professor Weissman has that rare combination of knowing a lot about network security AND be able to explain it to others. The technical content is first class, feedback is almost instantaneous and always to the point. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED ! (One minor point of work on Edx in general is correcting the many errors in the subtitles of the different courses for non-native English speaking students)

This was an all-around great course for those starting out in the field of cyber security. The real jewel of this course, however, is Prof. Weissman. He knows how to strike that rare balance of distilling information down to a manageable level for beginners without making it a boring collection of facts.
