Course Description

This course is part of the Microsoft Professional Program Certificate in Data Science and the Microsoft Professional Program Certificate in Big Data..

Transact-SQL is an essential skill for data professionals and developers working with SQL databases. With this combination of expert instruction, demonstrations, and practical labs, step from your first SELECT statement through to implementing transactional programmatic logic.

Work through multiple modules, each of which explore a key area of the Transact-SQL language, with a focus on querying and modifying data in Microsoft SQL Server or Azure SQL Database. The labs in this course use a sample database that can be deployed easily in Azure SQL Database, so you get hands-on experience with Transact-SQL without installing or configuring a database server.

The content is well-organized, there are links to helpful T-SQL documentation, the pace of the course was good, and the labs at the end of the course are great.

This Microsoft course is easily worth $99... I took the Database course at UC Berkeley about 25 years ago, I can tell you that this Microsoft course does a much better job covering the practical usage of SQL (UCB didn't even teach stuff like ROLLUP/CUBE/PIVOT/etc), but the UCB course did cover more about normalization (which the MS instructors mentioned is outside the scope of this course at the very beginning, and is fine by me)... The course workload is not heavy, and I got through it in about 2.5 weeks of about spending average 1.5 hours/day of spare time. Note, I studied SQL before but I very rarely use it at work as a software engineer.

Good concise yet informative content. Having completed the course I feel I have a good grasp of the basics of T-sql. Instructors go at a good pace and keep the content fairly interesting. The provider isn't great - quite a few technical problems.

Instructor: Perfect Content: 1. Should include cursor, and example of calling T-SQL from a program say Python or C#. 2. The AdventureWorksLT database is not available across all the Internet. I have to use Azure to create a new database using AdventureWorksLT as template. I copied the Azure AdvantureWorksLT to my local SQL but most of the column properties such as PK, IDENTITY, stored procedure got lost. Suggestion to have AdventureWorksLT available to install into a local SQL Svr.

Content is OK, though I'm missing content on index, query plan. Content presentation by instructor is excellent. Unfortunately I subtract some points for the provider, because there are too many technical issues: lab submission - progress link is broken, some exercises I had to submit 3 times, 2 answers in the final lab that I think are clearly correct are reported incorrect. Lots of discussion on the forum that agrees. The 2 faults kept me from 100% score, which is otherwise (too) easy to get.

Short, Precise and Concise is what describes this course, it was a very good experience taking this course and it is recommended for anyone looking for a business perspective with T-SQL. The instructors talk among themselves to imply the business needs of queries, this course is for someone who wants an understanding of why we are doing such queries ? and how to do them?

In my personal case it has been very useful to know how to query diferent tables on BD data to obtain the necessary information to analize it. My objetive is the Microsoft Professional Program for Data Science track. So my main objetive is to be able to analize correctly science sata, so this course let me understand T-SQL and do by myself the queries. For a person like me, without any knowledge on SQL, has been very easy to learn with the examples and the exercices and assessment.

A lot of talking and too long videos. You can easily get lost and bored. Some content is good. Won't suggest it to experienced professional but would be good for new starters.

I already knew a bit of SQL before taking this course, I needed a refresher course and this course had enough dept to cover concepts that I have not covered in any training I had attended before, subqueries, Case statements, With statements, error handling to mention a few. Practice leads to perfection, to become proficient, you will need a lot of extra practice than the ones provided in the exercise, but this course will show you the possibilities of SQL. I will definitely recommend this course to anyone who hasn't got lots of money or time to spend attending one of the expensive courses.

Read a book, do some exercise, save some time. This course will only reinforce some of your existing knowledge. Not saying that is is hard; in fact, it is easy as hell. But the homework is a joke. You don't have any solid learning by "filling the blanks" in an already 90% constructed code. Two weeks after I finish the course, I can barely remember anything from the course.

Graeme Malcolm is borrowing, speaks much, impossible to engage with him or his lessons. He sits down, "let's fall asleep altogether". Each video is about 10 minutes, with 70% of the duration doesn't offer something. If I don't take the MS data science certificate, he is the reason.

The course content and lab questions were really good. If all the concepts are digested, one would surely feel that one has come a long way from the first module. However, I think the instructors rather paced a bit too much from the 7th module till the 10th. But with a notebook in hand to jot down the points, you can learn faster. Great video lengths, points and also really good demos too. Overall, a great course for any novice.
