Course Description

Understand the background and meaning of Six Sigma and the five steps of the DMAIC process improvement flow: Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve and Control. Discuss what "Quality" means and how to identify the Voice of the Customer.

You will learn how to set an improvement project goal, calculate process yield, and identify Critical to Quality parameters.

You will learn how to map a process and to use the necessary statistical techniques to establish the baseline performance of a process and to calculate the process capability.

To complement the lectures, we provide interactive exercises, which allow learners to see the statistics "in action." Learners then master the statistical concepts by completing practice problems. These are then reinforced using interactive case-studies, which illustrate the application of the statistics in quality improvement situations.

This is a really good course! Lectures are not too long and not too short. There is really a lot of practical examples from many different fields of business. Exercises are not too complicated and help to combine theory and praxis. Course staff replies messages very fast. Certificate price seems to be reasonable to me. Enjoy the course!

This is one of three courses in the series and it does not disappoint. The content of the material was relevant and the instructors are very knowledgeable and responsive. I would definitely recommend this course if you have or do not have experience in Six Sigma. The completion of this class will prepare you to be successful in next class Analyze.

Hello! My name is Luiz Fernandes and I´m from Brazil. I´m just here to say some words about this course. It was the best course I have had first of all, because is really difficult we did a course like this ( not just define and measure, but all six sigma series). The price is Brazil is expensive and the quality, I think is not so good like in Technische Universität München. I had amazing Teacher like Prof. Dr. Holly OTT and i can say that this course will help me a lot. I lived in a countryside, here is hard to get a good education and I belive an opportunity like this, to take an incredible course, taught by amazing professionals is something Worth. The content is relevant and open your eyes to how importante is quality in our world. I´m a Mechatronics technician, trying to improve myself in a poor place and i know I can do it through a good education and get a new job( because now I´m unemployed). The introduction course to this series. It definitely was useful and fulfilling to learn from the professors in Six Sigma about the tools to implement Six Sigma. Having completed the program, i felt that this course is the most foundational concept which others will build upon it. The next course- Analyze will dive deeper into more complex formulations.

It is very fulfilling experience to complete the requirements of this course. The new knowledge I gained from the three courses are awesome. Since day one of the course, all interesting facts about quality improvement and processes enlightened my queries. This course really like a brick and mortar learning from the start and exceeded my expectations and I am sure other learners also will agree with me. I am a Civil Engineer in construction industry taking up my MBA and this course gave me interest even more on quality that I can apply in our industry. We all know that manufacturing and construction are on opposite side of the table but incorporating the success of six sigma and lean in manufacturing will greatly contribute on the improvement not only with the quality but also in the iron triangle (cost, scope and time). This is my second time around using statistics. In Define and Measure I was able to learn how to apply statistics to define problems in in factories and industries. And the ability to measure the results to start an improvement process. I love the instructors who lectured the course. They all have such a breathe of knowledge. My goal after completing this series is to get certified through ASQ to get my Green Belt. I feel confident that this series will lead to that goal.

This course covers a widespread variety of topics, all related and linked to the first two phases of DMAIC cycle. Complexity used it's fine and the way topics are explained is amazing, most of the time you don't need to replay videos because you can understand them from the very first time. Teacher Holly Ott leaves you with the least amount of questions and doubts unsolved. I recommend this course to anyone who doesn't know anything about Six Sigma but is willing to learn from the basic to an intermediate level. About Edx, it should improve its Android app, sometimes some videos don't play and course due dates don't appear.

I found extremely useful each part of this course from the begining to the end. I am Industrial Engineer working as Process Engineer for a Medical Devices manufactuirng company and we are looking forward to start with process improvement and scrap reduction projects since the delivery (PvsA) is somehow undercontrol. I'm working in three projects to reduce the scrap on my production lines and definetly I'm going to use most of the tools presented here. Great work Holly and all the team. I'm very excited to start the second course.

This course is very well structured, providing a very good insight about the process and final outcome (meeting and even delighting customer / consumer). The application of statistics concepts is very well explained. An effective integration of theory, examples and practice sessions (quizzes) is really evident and well-sequenced. It is a well spent time; thanks to the selected content, instructors and course provider especially professor Hollyott.

Six Sigma has become a must have tool under one's skill set. Before signing up for the course I was in a dilemma for the same as six sigma involves much detailed topic and calculations. But my doubt was cleared as the course picked it's pace. The course revolves around in detail topic videos, good sets of questions and real life examples. The course crew is wonderful and has explained the topic in it's simplest form. Looking forward for the upcoming course.

Before I started, I was worrying the concepts and calculations it might have, for being away from school for so many years. But it turns out very easy to gasp, Prof. Holly explains in very detailed and I have no problem in understanding it. The course is very useful for a start to a systematical quality management tool. The crews are wonderful and very helpful. I love this course and have signed up for the 2nd phrase.

I have gain greater understanding of the quality and control processes. There are 8 descriptive sessions, which covered background of Six Sigma,DMAIC Cycle, customer expectations, statistics, normal distribution, process mapping, measurement system analysis, process capability and tolerance. This course was well structured. All material was easy to follow and most of the contents are downloadable. The professor explained it in detailed manner with numerous examples which make the concepts more easily understand. In addition, there are interactive exercises, tests and homework assignments . In addition to the course, the support from the Team at TUM is very responsive in answering questions.
