Course Description

Supply chains are complex systems involving multiple businesses and organizations with different goals and objectives. Many different analytical methods and techniques are used by researchers and practitioners alike to better design and manage their supply chains. This business and management course introduces the primary methods and tools that you will encounter in your study and practice of supply chains. We focus on the application of these methods, not necessarily the theoretical underpinnings.

We will begin with an overview of introductory probability and decision analysis to ensure that students understand how uncertainty can be modeled. Next, we will move into basic statistics and regression. Finally, we will introduce optimization modeling from unconstrained to linear, non-linear, and mixed integer linear programming.

This is a hands-on course. Students will use spreadsheets extensively to apply these techniques and app...

The MITx MicroMasters Credential in Supply Chain Management is specifically designed and administered by MIT’s Center for Transportation & Logistics (CTL) to teach the critical skills needed to be successful in this exciting and growing field. In addition to being a standalone certificate demonstrating expertise in the field, students who complete all of the required courses and the final proctored exam will be qualified to apply to gain credit at MIT for the blended graduate master's degree program. In order to qualify for the MITx MicroMasters Credential in Supply Chain Management you need to earn a Verified Certificate in all of the required courses. When you register for a Verified Certificate you will also be granted access to additional practice problems, supplemental readings, and opportunities for increased interaction with the faculty and teaching staff.

I am an engineering major. I did not have much idea about the supply chain management until recently when I had the opportunity to be a part of a famous supply chain activity where there are four teams assigned the roles of factory, wholesaler, distributor and retailer, followed by a session on the dynamics of SCM. I really enjoyed that activity and felt like this is something I should be doing as I found myself quickly getting hold of the concepts. So I am anxiously waiting for this course to start and interact with other people to make the most out of this amazing edx journey.

This is unfortunately the worst part of the series. With frequent mistakes in the lecture and in the practice problems as well as the homework assignments, it does not motivate me to spend my time on it. That is a shame because the courses coming after this one are interesting and much better quality. If you really need the MM, you don't have a different choice but otherwise, I would skip it as it is not necessary for the understanding of any of the other material. They have also started the requirement of a protoctored exam. That means that software has to be installed that records the student during some of the exams. That includes video of the whole room. It feels like a massive intrusion on privacy.

Supply chain management is basically like a dream for me now as i am enrolled and doing it and so far its good for me because i am fully employed and have less time to study it. I am struggling a lot and over all they have given complete guidance about every topic and it my request if they will include more ways to practice the topics. I have found that we are not been provided with the real logistics problems so far and maybe in future courses we will have that problems anyhow MIT is really providing a good opportunity.

I am a mechanical engineer, who has been out of school for a while and I am taking this course out of curiosity. I had little idea of what the field of supply chain management was about, but I have to say that I am finding this course very instructive and entertaining. The course itself is well laid out and very challenging. If you are thinking about enrolling, you should take heed of the course content, because this course is all about mathematical modeling of real world problems. You should be able to use Excel at an advanced level and be comfortable with some light programming when developing models. One of the things that I have found very interesting with online courses is how much help is available these days at the touch of a mouse. The included content is extremely helpful in walking you through most of the material and if not, help is available through a simple internet search. A far cry from when I was in college. That bei... That being said, while there is no reason that anyone who is reasonably prepared should not succeed in this course, it will still take a tremendous amount of time to study and master the material. I believe that the effort of 8-12 hours per week is very low, and you can safely double that. I believe that anyone willing to put in the time and effort will be well rewarded. Just be aware of what you are signing up for.

I love this entire course, especially the quants. Just a quick suggestion: Can we have a week of break during the major holiday periods of Thanksgiving and Holidays/New Year? It will definitely enable all of us to enjoy this time with families (especially those of us working full time)! thanks
