Course Description

Understand the impact of technology on sustainability and society, using relevant historical examples and current issues in the news, and gain insight on the cultural frameworks within which ideas such as sustainability and different technologies are understood and evolve. You’ll also explore emerging technologies from the Industrial Revolution through present day, leading to a future that will be complex and challenging, and in many ways look like science fiction.

This 3 credit hour course satisfies the Humanities, Arts and Design (HU) general studies requirement at Arizona State University. This course may satisfy a general education requirement at other institutions; however, it is strongly encouraged that you consult with your institution of choice to determine how these credits will be applied to their degree requirements prior to transferring the credit.

Dr. Allenby literally wrote the book on this one. The course rewards logical thinking and provides an interesting insight into the course. The staff was flexible and responsive to issues that arose. This is an excellent way to fill an HU requirement at ASU on the cheap.

Arizona (EdX Partnership) Came back after decades away from being at college. And took 5 courses through the ASU program and did exceptionally well, which I found out down the road, I can apply for College Credit through Arizona State University which was amazing opportunity for an old timer like myself to apply for college credit while working for my second bachelors degree at Nazarene Bible College (CO) and my second Associate at Fredrick Community College (MD) both colleges allowing me to apply the 5 classes/16 units towards my general electives. Amazing course, learned a lot in these courses.. Thanks again for educating an old fart! I end up having to deploy and leave the class at the end so the credits didn't count, but I do plan on taking this class again for credit. The Professor was amazing and the staff was great. The instructor has an amazing CV in multipke disciplines. ASU could set up some intro to econ, and intro to law courses with him! That would be very interesting!
