Course Description

Mining underpins much of our technology and industries as well as modern society in general. A successful mine should be run efficiently and responsibly from exploration through to closure, with sound economic management every step of the way. In this course you’ll examine the business aspect of mining, focusing on the life cycle of a gold mine and discovering the technical and economic issues that affect the exploration, planning, operation and closure of a large-scale mining project.

The Business of Mining has recently won the Best in Class in the University category of the Interactive Media Awards in the USA. The judging criteria included design, content, feature functionality, usability, standards compliance and cross-browser compatibility.

The course was set up in such a way that i understand the Mining Process, I am however not a Engineer but am a small business person trying to understand the life cycle and economics of mining as it is one of the Industries i will want to enter in the near future, I am in Namibia in the South Western part of Africa, and the country has a lot of future prospects in mining different minerals like gold and lithium

I have found very experienced professionals in your instructors. I am myself in mining business for more than 25 years as a metallurgical engineer involved in operations and operations construction. You need to upgrade your courses for people willing to question highers levels of responsibility in mining industry. People doesn't have sometimes the opportunity to meet highly skilled and experienced lecturer. Please continue.

One of the best if not the best course I have done so far. Amazing introduction to the complex business to mining. Interaction lessons and layout, also composed of many interviews with professionals which invoke interest. The length is also appropriate for an introductory course with great scope. Students will be able to appreciate the economics, operational, cultural aspects of mining. Perhaps more courses can be provided on the various resources mined as there are very limited courses on mining and there is the general perception of mining as a pollute and sunset industry despite its great importance in our modern world.

A very nice course about the basics of mining. Yes it is for beginners but the content is provided in a great didactical way with many videos and gamification elements that ensure you have fun by learning. I would love to see an advanced program!

This course is taught very well. The content is interesting but very basic, but it's a good introduction into the Business of Mining. I hope that a more in depth course is released soon.

Very basic coarse but that is not a bad thing as it provides a great overview of the mining cycle and some business considerations. I would strongly recommend this MOOC for people with a non-technical background starting in the industry to get a better understanding of mining as a business. I hope to see Curtin/WASM offer a more in depth MOOC in mineral economics in the future.

This was a very good introduction to the basic concepts of the mining industry. The course is fun to take (applied gamification at its finest). Do note that this is only an overview, and so it's not really appropriate for someone with previous experience in the field, as it may seem too basic (and that's the way it should be anyway, in-depth courses for each part would be necessary to cover anymore). As an introduction it is excellent and I'll be recommending this course to other people!

Very interesting course but very basic. Courses more specialized in, for example, mining exploration (geochemistry, geostatistics...), explotation or mineral processing would be better for people with backgroung in geology, geological encineering or mining engineering.

I Attended a very good course. the simulation of gold mining makes the course concepts very easy to catch. A priori the instructors and Curtin are credible since in the past I tried to enroll at Curtin to study mining engineering. However I instructors will propose courses on Professional education credits basis, at both intermediate and advanced levels in the same field.

This IS A very important progress. Not only for mining but for the whole community. It is instructive. As evolutionary in the field, I learned a lot and experienced a lot of things. Hoping still have a very extensive area in the same context in the near future. Thank you to the team and to the initiators of this course very important. Thank you
