Course Description

In this history course, you will learn about the diversity and multilingualism that existed in Egypt, and how it had a bearing on the history of the country and its people.

Through the introduction of new languages, Egyptians learned to interact with scripts, cultures and peoples.

The plurality of languages and writing that Egypt witnessed along its history, gave rise to one of the most cosmopolitan melting pots in the ancient world. And although the peak of Egyptian multilingualism was in the Ptolemaic period [323-30 BCE], the country witnessed, in the pre-Ptolemaic period, the appearance of different foreign languages in official and public spheres.

I absolutely loved this course! I signed up because of a recent discovery that my ancestors were Egyptian. And I much expected the premise of travel, commerce and regency to have played significant roles, but I learned so much more! It is immediately obvious to the student observer that the instructors are passionate and proud of their subject and possess a desire to share this with others. I was totally enthralled and cannot wait to utilize my new found knowledge! PS to the instructors - As someone in the fashion business, I must say, you both dress impeccably! Bravo, et merci pour tout!

Thank you for sharing your expertise. The transcript along side the video was immensely helpful on the few occasions I experienced difficulty in understanding what was said. Egyptian-accented English is not a common accent in my area so my ears are not trained to the nuances.

I enjoyed this course immensely. I had no idea that Egypt had such a rich and varied past. We are far beyond pyramids and Cleopatra here! Most enlightening and the instructors are passionate about their subject. The only addition I would suggest is more visual materials. Thanks so much and I'm hoping for more from Alexandria.

I have to congratulate the digital platform for such a great job mas especially the instructors, Dr. Mansour and Dr. Ezzat, for their fluency in speech and pleasant presentations. I learned a lot about other writings in Egypt, which proves really to be a multi-cultural land, filled with opportunities and good people to work with. I look forward to meet both instructors next time I am in Alexandria, or in a conference elsewhere. Many thanks for your availability to share your knowledge!!

I would have like to have seen more graphics rather than the talking heads of the teachers. While the content was exceptional Ahmed at times was difficult to understand.
