Course Description

Globalization is a fascinating spectacle that can be understood as global systems of competition and connectivity. These man-made systems provide transport, communication, governance, and entertainment on a global scale. International crime networks are outgrowths of the same systems. Topics include national identity, language diversity, the global labor market, popular culture, sports and climate change.

However, an increase in integration has not brought increased equality. Globalization creates winners and losers among countries and global corporations, making competition the beating heart of the globalization process.

The globalization process exemplifies connectivity. Globalization is unimaginable without the unprecedented electronic networks that project dominant cultural products into every society on earth.

Learn how to identify and analyze global systems and better understand how the world works.

Professor Hoberman, in the light of the Brexit vote and the upcoming 2016 presidential election in the United States of America, needs to, if he haven't so already, updated criticism of the current globalization project. I was a graduate of his 2014 online course and learned MUCH for which I am grateful. However, current world wide criticism by intellects, politicians and the people at the bottom of the new economic world order of the globalization project are suffering tremendously and are, in result, in full rebellion. Their standard of living dropped effecting their families and their societies around them. These people right now are fighting for their lives. If Professor Hoberman has not modified his curriculum post 2014, he needs to do so immediately. Their standard of living dropped effecting their families and their societies around them. These people right now are fighting for their lives. If Professor Hoberman has not modified his curriculum post 2014, he needs to do so immediately. The regular people of this world in 2016 are rebelling against globalization in this current manifestation expressly favoring the economic elites. The response to current globalization policies favoring multinational corporations and the very wealthy (implemented in te European Union by un-elected bureaucrats) has lead to: 1.) the Brexit vote, 2.)the threat of other European countries leaving the European Union and 3.)the 2016 USA presidential election). The international mainstream press tells us this revolt is because those opposing the current manifestation of globalization are racist and uneducated thugs. This an absolute lie. Hoberman needs to modify his course to address the criticism of a globalization project that is occurring now. The current globalization model is a failure on epic proportions. The people of the world are clearly and firmly rejecting it. Intellectuals need to helpful to the people of the Earth and propose a new model of globalization that is beneficial to all and not just a few select monstrously rich global entities. Thanks.
