This is a decent primer for learning about what game design and balance is but my problem with the RIT courses on edx is that they don't challenge you to use this knowledge by creating your own games. For the full experience, I recommend taking this course as an intro and then taking Ian's Game Design Concepts and Game Design Balance courses (which are linked within the course or you can Google them, they're both free). Even though they're mainly for tabletop games, those courses are absolutely phenomenal and will teach you 90% of what you need to know to design games. Plus, you'll start making games on day one. I took those courses and have been creating games ever since.

This course provides many useful experience and knowledge about game design for newbie or someone like gamers want to become a game design. Also somehow maybe it includes negative points about gaming field, but with the specified problems or failure through-out the course, this is a highlight.
