In Skillshare’s unique philosophy, everyone is a teacher, and everyone is a learner. Rather than a traditional lecture format, courses are offered within a global online learning community in which learners collaborate and learn by doing. Instructors are industry leaders who share their skills with anyone who wants to learn. No credits are offered. Founded by online entrepreneurs Michael Karnjanaprakorn and Malcolm Ong, Skillshare’s online “campus” was launched in April 2011. Its catalog has grown from 15 to more than 250 online courses that cover creative arts, entrepreneurship, branding and marketing, lifestyle and technology. The School of MakeOurMark, with courses in photography, illustration and tattooing, was launched in October 2013, and the School of Design went live the following month. Among the instructors who have taught courses are Seth Godin, founder of online marketing firm Yoyodyne, who teaches a class on entrepreneurship; DJ Young Guru, who leads a course on mixing and recording; and actor, writer and director James Franco, whose course focuses on screenwriting for short films. You can begin a Skillshare collaboration by taking an introductory course in a particular area to learn, for example, the fundamentals of Photoshop and expand your knowledge with a five-part, in-depth Photoshop series.

This class offers a great foundation in HTML5 and CSS3. The instructor made everything really clear and easy to follow, and learning by creating my own project in parallel with hands-on exercises really solidified the concepts and made it fun! In the few weeks it took me to complete this course, I learned way more than I could have spending months trying to teach myself. I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to become a competent front-end developer.

I was really impressed with the instructor (Johnathan Grover). He explained the positives and negatives of coding in certain ways and explained why he made every coding decision. I found this approach super helpful as someone just trying to sink my teeth into website design through a guinea pig project and learn as much as I can in the process. Thank you!!

Very comprehensive. If you're a beginner, it will get you started and going really fast. If you're intermediate, it will give you the details you might have missed and get you to work faster and more effective.

Excellent class. I really recommend checking this out, even if you have a basic understanding of HTML/CSS. It's a good exercise to really pat down the knowledge you already have, and help you push yourself beyond what you're used to creating.

The "Build an HTML and CSS Website from Scratch" class taught by Jonathan Grover was a great way for me to quickly get a hang of the basic process of building a website. I had taken other HTML/CSS tutorials before, but this really helped put the big picture together. I really enjoyed Jonathan's direct and down-to-earth teaching style. The structure of the class was also great for me, as I could watch Jonathan briefly discuss a concept in the abstract, see him implement it on his site, then immediately set about implementing it on my own site. Along the way, he also introduces a number of really helpful and time-saving tips and resources for developing a website. I highly recommend this class for anyone looking to get started building their first HTML/CSS website.

Very helpful instruction! Especially useful if you already know a few basic concepts of HTML and CSS and want to see how they all tie together. The supplemental readings are also good. Great class.

This class is awesome. I came into the class knowing very little about HTML and CSS, but the videos and tutorials were very easy to follow. Jonathan also does an excellent job of also listing out all the resources that you'd need for referencing. I wish there were more classes taught by him.

I went into this class with a very basic understanding of HTML and CSS separately, but had been having trouble making that connection when attempting to style HTML code. This class, somehow, finally helped everything click for me (plenty of "a-ha!" moments). I finally feel like I GET it. Definitely recommend having a legitimate personal project/website to use and apply the lessons to as you go along. Working along with Jonathan's working files was helpful, but I did the most problem solving and learning when I then applied what he does in the videos to my own personal project. Overall, I highly recommend giving the class a try.

All that I can say is that I wish that I had known about this course before I wasted money and time on other online tutorials and courses. He does everything that a teacher should. People do not realize that when you teach a beginners class you have to approach it as though the students know nothing about the subject, and Jonathan does just that. He explains the concepts on their own, and then he explains how they fit into the web design process, as he builds a website. This is the one to take.

Only excellence. John explains things slowly and in-depth, which can *seem* wildly fast when he dives into complex situations. I really appreciate how he does not shy away from complexity, as he deals with the everyday problems you will encounter while doing HTML and CSS. His steady way of explaining things gives you a strong conceptual understanding of what is happening, as well as a hearty technical toolkit to make what you want. Also, he provides an amazing set of links to learn more about the topics he covers. This is a great course, and it will teach you how to make a modern website using HTML and CSS.

Jonathan is very thorough and I love the fact that I can go back and review the lessons over and over again if I need to. The CSS stuff is pretty hard, but you will get it with this class. This is by far the best $20 I have ever spent!

Jonathan explains the course very methodically, with lots of corner cases pointed out. I will probably be using lots of frameworks from now, but knowing the underlying HTML/CSS is best for tweaking websites to your function. Thanks for the clear explanations Jonathan!

Jonathan is a great teacher. Im going to be looking out for more classes of his. This class is very cool for a mainly print designer like myself. I'm glad that i'll be able to start designing websites upon completion and I like the teaching style of Jonathan. The only question I have is this class has you type code first. When i've heard by a few designers that you should design first then code. However, through this class Jonathan had taught me a lot and I highly recommend this class to any designer who wants to start to design websites or needs a refresher. He's very detailed and gives multiple options and solutions of troubleshooting writing code. By far the best $20 i've ever spent

Jonathan does a great job with this class. I found the pace of the class to be perfect from a subject that I had very little background in. By breaking down the content the way he does, he makes in easy to keep your own project on pace with the class site. All in all this class was a great introduction to Skillshare and I hope any classes I take in the future are as educational as this one.
