In Skillshare’s unique philosophy, everyone is a teacher, and everyone is a learner. Rather than a traditional lecture format, courses are offered within a global online learning community in which learners collaborate and learn by doing. Instructors are industry leaders who share their skills with anyone who wants to learn. No credits are offered. Founded by online entrepreneurs Michael Karnjanaprakorn and Malcolm Ong, Skillshare’s online “campus” was launched in April 2011. Its catalog has grown from 15 to more than 250 online courses that cover creative arts, entrepreneurship, branding and marketing, lifestyle and technology. The School of MakeOurMark, with courses in photography, illustration and tattooing, was launched in October 2013, and the School of Design went live the following month. Among the instructors who have taught courses are Seth Godin, founder of online marketing firm Yoyodyne, who teaches a class on entrepreneurship; DJ Young Guru, who leads a course on mixing and recording; and actor, writer and director James Franco, whose course focuses on screenwriting for short films. You can begin a Skillshare collaboration by taking an introductory course in a particular area to learn, for example, the fundamentals of Photoshop and expand your knowledge with a five-part, in-depth Photoshop series.

What You'll Make

For this class you will be creating a digital illustration that will be your visual interpretation of an adjective. You will get the choice of one of two adjectives:"quiet" or "loud". You will accomplish this through the use of pattern, texture, and color. Your illustration can be as abstract or literal as you choose. The class will start with you determining how you would like to visualize the word. Based on your ideas and brainstorming, you will then select your strongest directions. This is a great time for you to get feedback from your peers to see if you are communicating the way you would like.

I think this class was excellent and was really impressed with Brad's involvement and feedback. He was very hands on. Unfortunately I was unable to keep up due to other commitments but I think the time frame was perfect for the project. And I'm looking forward to watching all of Brad's video lectures to finish my project.

This is a great class with a very rich selection of resources, links and videos. Brad is incredibly generous in his sharing of his techniques and approaches. I'd recommend the course to anyone with access to Adobe Illustrator and an interest in thinking about colour and adding depth and texture to their digital work.

Great class with lots of resources! Would definitely recommend and interested in other related classes for the future. Need more time to get through the material again though... thankfully we can go at our own pace and access everything indefinitely. There are a lot of students in the class, so not sure if it's too easy to get lost in the mix. I don't think everyone received feedback or interaction, just because there are so many of us...

I really loved this class! Brad Woodard is a great teacher and amazing illustrator. He provided so much information and useful resources and although there were so many people in the class, he commented on a great number of projects and provided assistance/advice when needed. This was my first attempt at digital illustration and this is the reason I didn't complete the project within the 2 weeks period, however with all the material and tips given by Brad, I feel a lot more confident and eager to finish it. Plus the price was a steal! I'd definitely recommend it!

This class was excellent! Brad gave lots of tips and tricks within Illustrator that I would have never even known to look for. I'll be able to take this not only into my personal work- but into my professional work as well. Thanks Brad for all the thought that went into this class!

This class is a great source of knowledge and tips, even for someone who already knows how to use Adobe Illustrator pretty well. I've been using Illustrator for the past 6 years, and I still learned about a couple tools that I never knew existed and plan on using frequently now! This class had over 900 students, but somehow Brad still managed to give me personal feedback on my individual project and questions. I can tell he really spent a lot of time putting together the videos and other resources, as well as giving each student individual attention. I'm really glad I took this class, and I'd recommend it to anyone!

This was my first Skillshare class and it has completely changed my creative life! Brad was the perfect teacher. He was very generous and patient with the information and tutorials he shared, and despite the huge class size (800+ enrolled!) he made sure to comment on as many projects as one person could, and if anyone felt at some point that they were getting lost in the shuffle, given the class size, he would take a look at their project when requested. My project was nowhere near the top/popular but Brad found his way to it and gave great feedback, as he did for my classmates. Even though the class was very on-your-own-time and we saw Brad via pre-recorded videos (aside from the Q&A;), it truly felt like he was always there, very accessible and keeping tabs on all of us. The techniques I learned were ones that I had been scouring the internet for, for the past 1-2 years and Brad shared all of this with us in full detail, answering ... I thought I would be intimidated by this course, but that was not the case. Brad broke down his process into small achievable steps coupled with great instruction. I can't believe how much I learned in just two weeks.

Wonderful first Skillshare experience with Brad Woodard's class. He was very informative and knowledgeable. He shared a variety of resources that are now apart of my design book collection. I was very surprised to see how many of his techniques were shared, because a lot of designers and illustrators don't like to give away all their secrets. Overall, a great experience and I would take it again! Thanks, Brad!

This hugely enjoyable course was taught and carefully written by the very talented illustrator Brad Woodard. Brad provided excellent guidance via his video posts and loads of great links to some incredible tutorials. I personally gained a lot from it and have become a more confident illustrator for it. For both the seasoned pro and beginner alike I would thoroughly recommend this course!

Fantastic class. this guy put so much effort into the class, and it was well worth the 20 bucks. Learned great quick tips for shortcuts in AI, and adding texture to vectors to liven them up. Very satisfied. I will definitely take a class from Brad in the future.

I loved taking this course! I received so much information about pattern and texture techniques, practical color theory, and concept development. Part of the fun of this course is that you get to play with your art and perhaps even develop some new strategies for how to make new work. I also felt very privileged to see how others work through the process. It was wonderful to share in this experience.I was reminded of all the reasons I wanted to be an artist.

The video's were very helpful and as easy as it was to follow I still found the challenge that I like in actually applying it. It also led me some other great resources as well, like the Method and Craft blog. Thanks for teaching this Brad!

Brad was professional and a clear, effective communicator. His tutorials were worth the price of admission, alone. I'd recommend this class to any beginner or skilled designer looking for tips on using color and texture to add depth to his or her designs.

I enjoyed the class and got a lot ouf of Brad's videos, but at two weeks it felt a bit rushed, especially for those of us trying to do a project on top of our day jobs. It's not a big deal, since you can always go back, but I felt like I'd like to learn more about all of the topics we covered. I guess that's a good sign, though (and, hey, it's $15) :)
