In Skillshare’s unique philosophy, everyone is a teacher, and everyone is a learner. Rather than a traditional lecture format, courses are offered within a global online learning community in which learners collaborate and learn by doing. Instructors are industry leaders who share their skills with anyone who wants to learn. No credits are offered. Founded by online entrepreneurs Michael Karnjanaprakorn and Malcolm Ong, Skillshare’s online “campus” was launched in April 2011. Its catalog has grown from 15 to more than 250 online courses that cover creative arts, entrepreneurship, branding and marketing, lifestyle and technology. The School of MakeOurMark, with courses in photography, illustration and tattooing, was launched in October 2013, and the School of Design went live the following month. Among the instructors who have taught courses are Seth Godin, founder of online marketing firm Yoyodyne, who teaches a class on entrepreneurship; DJ Young Guru, who leads a course on mixing and recording; and actor, writer and director James Franco, whose course focuses on screenwriting for short films. You can begin a Skillshare collaboration by taking an introductory course in a particular area to learn, for example, the fundamentals of Photoshop and expand your knowledge with a five-part, in-depth Photoshop series.

This this is definitely a class one should only take if they are a subscriber. It's pretty short and not an in-depth tutorial. It was more just a video of Jon Contino in action. That being said, this was great though. I loved getting to see his process and it kickstarted my creativity.

I absolutely loved this class! It's so interesting to see the process by which labels are made. I particularly like the overview where Jon was showing us his own projects, those were really outside of the box. So neat! I am surprised though that he did not mention food labeling regulations. Those requirements take so much space right on the front label and I would think they would need to be incorporated in the initial design spacing.

This class is amazing, just by the sole fact that you get to watch the cretive process of how Jon Contino comes about his ideas, he's awesome and the class is very inspiring!

This class is worth taking regardless of the skill your looking to enhance. The process alone is adaptable in so many other areas of work-flow outside if illustration and lettering. I suggest watching it all the way through and taking notes, then coming back and re-watching it again. Jon Contino is an amazing designer, letterer, and illusttrator as well as a productive machine. Stay with it, you'll get it!

I loved the course but I would need a favour of you. Could you teach how to get the lettering done on illustrator without running the hand written feel? cause if we use the pen tool that feel will be lost with the perfect bezier curves, how do you do to get that rough hand made style on the vectorized lettering? Thanks!

I was a bit disappointed in this class. Jon has some inspiring work and I anticipated more content regarding process. Coming from a student's perspective, I wanted to see some close-ups of the inking, work done in illustrator and/or photoshop. Just showing footage of the computer screen post process is not benefiting the student. How did you get there? When would you use photoshop with illustrator? Where did you get the illustration of the wine bottle for mock-ups? How did you clean up your illustration once scanned? What are your type resources for tracing and/or inspiration? This just felt way too empty for the requested tuition.

The mood board is the best element that every designer must opt. Now, I have a new insight to look into labels and tags. Thanks :)

Consider this a recommendation with reservations. I'm glad I took this class (or rather, watched the videos) because Jon's work is inspiring and it's interesting to see his thought process behind a project and his design philosophy as a whole. Unfortunately, that's about all I took away from it, so I only recommend this class to someone who's a member and wouldn't have to pay a la carte for it. He really didn't get into the nuts and bolts of how he fleshes his sketches out into a finished product or get into the technical aspects of lettering and design at all.

Great intro to label design, choosing styles and elements for your design but most of all the importance of understanding your client, their product and market. Would have been great to see Jon work some of his magic in illustrator before showing the final product. Well done.

Thought this was a great class. Quick and to the point and i loved how it moved. I only just discovered Jon a few weeks ago, and i fell in love with his work instantly. As someone who teaches myself, i think Jon has the teaching gift. I want to see a hand lettering class sometime in the future!

I was pretty disappointed with this class. I felt like the lessons were extremely basic, and they didn't really cover the aspects I was hoping to learn. I was expecting much more content from the teacher.

What I really wanted to learn from this skillshare was how Jon Contino turns his wonderful hand drawn type and illustrations into digital art without losing all of that character and craft. Do he redraw the entire thing in illustrator? does he live trace? Just how does he keep that hand drawn look but turn it digital? Personally I feel that the tutorial was a bit weak, no introduction into the tools, the settings, the real skills that are needed to create a job like this. Instead just a load of waffle about his favourite labels and a quick look at a logo he has done. Disappointing!

This class was awesome, I took it late, and didn't get to have a lot of peer review, but honestly, the videos and project steps are so good that I am completely satisfied. Thanks to Jon Contino for sharing his talent and giving me new ideas and insights to make my own work much better.

What a disappointing class. The tutor does not go into any detail about hand lettering and how to go about it, (which is why I enrolled for this class), techniques on finding suitable typefaces to use and how to utilise them in the best way, how to transfer them on paper, nothing whatsoever. 3 short videos are uploaded, and the rest is based on other student work. Comparing to another skillshare class where the tutor went IN DETAIL about his specific techniques and gave tips on improving one's artwork, this class does none of this. If you want to learn something about hand lettering, you will certainly not find it here.

I really love the work of Jon Contino, but this class lacked in giving worthful resources and seemed sketchy. If you follow to some good projects in the gallery you get the same out of it. The class was okay but if you ask me “We’ll use this to help other Skillshare students to decide if they should take this class.” I have to say: no.

I love that the class is self paced because we all have tons of different things going on. I did the best that I could, and definitely left feeling inspired to take our logo designs to the next level. The other student's work was great to see- being able to see the evolution of their work was awesome. I really appreciated the feedback as well.
