In Skillshare’s unique philosophy, everyone is a teacher, and everyone is a learner. Rather than a traditional lecture format, courses are offered within a global online learning community in which learners collaborate and learn by doing. Instructors are industry leaders who share their skills with anyone who wants to learn. No credits are offered. Founded by online entrepreneurs Michael Karnjanaprakorn and Malcolm Ong, Skillshare’s online “campus” was launched in April 2011. Its catalog has grown from 15 to more than 250 online courses that cover creative arts, entrepreneurship, branding and marketing, lifestyle and technology. The School of MakeOurMark, with courses in photography, illustration and tattooing, was launched in October 2013, and the School of Design went live the following month. Among the instructors who have taught courses are Seth Godin, founder of online marketing firm Yoyodyne, who teaches a class on entrepreneurship; DJ Young Guru, who leads a course on mixing and recording; and actor, writer and director James Franco, whose course focuses on screenwriting for short films. You can begin a Skillshare collaboration by taking an introductory course in a particular area to learn, for example, the fundamentals of Photoshop and expand your knowledge with a five-part, in-depth Photoshop series.

The title is kinda misleading... I thought it'll be about how to code a full website for startups and small business. It's more of a Photoshop class. Disappointed by the lack of design advice e.g. web typography and colours chosen.

Great tips, but I thought the lesson was extremely brief. I felt like I could have learn the same via one blog post. I was hoping for more as this is on Skillshare. Meg has a great personality and she is very talented. The classes demonstrated her skills, however I was looking for tips on HOW to get there? How did she think of that? How did she decide to do this? But thanks to Meg I picked up the recommended book "Don't Make Me Think." I'm almost done reading it, it's fantastic!

Very basic in teaching about the UI elements within Web Design, but I thoroughly enjoyed the class and took a lot away from it. This was just what I needed to get back into Web Design and the depth Meg went into with tutorials was much appreciated. Also appreciate the resources supplied to accompany the class. Definitely recommended, very quick class. I think it took me around 3-4 hours to complete. Thanks Meg!

I would recommend this class only if you're looking to build a design of a website in Photoshop. This doesn't include making your site live. It's a good way to learn how to create a mockup.

Meg Lewis seems like she'd be a really great person to hang out with. Her personality really shines through her lesson. I have to say that I'm a was swayed into enrolling in this class by the class info page. Beautifully designed 2d diagrams. I had no idea this class would be on almost entirely Blender Options in photoshop. It would have been nice to have a sample of work to be created on the info page. I was hoping this class would include a bit more theory than personal intuition. I think it would have helped if Meg included examples of sites—good and bad. Not much was mentioned about the 960 grid system, which I think all her measurements were based off from the get go. I know that's a lot of constructive criticism but I'd still recommend this class. Perhaps someone who is new to photoshop however—I do think this is more of a photoshop class. Meg seems very nice and patient to answer any questions that you probably send her way.

Meg is awesome. She's quirky and funny and completely entertaining to listen to and learn from. And she knows her stuff! This was a really great class both in terms of content and project-based learning, and it leaves you with that feeling of satisfaction that you just added another feather to your cap of design skills. Recommended for those new to web design as well as to those who have been doing it for a while, just to get a fresh perspective and recharge on a bit of awesome.

I really wanted to like this class, but I have to say, I don't understand the point. Meg teaches how to make a variety of buttons and avatars, but she doesn't really... I don't know, discuss the "WHY" of design. She also goes way too fast in the tutorials. I wish Meg distributed some notes about the settings she gave for each button instead of simply distributing the PSD file itself. I find myself pausing, rewinding, pausing, rewinding over and over again, because Meg just goes so fast: "OK, now I'll give Opacity of 15%, no, 20%, yeah that looks good, OK, now let's go to Drop Shadow, OK, let's make this..." -- TOO FAST! To sum it up as succinctly as possible? -- Imagine your Web Designer friend drank 3 cups of coffee and let you watch her make Photoshop buttons and avatars while she recites what she's doing. There you have it. That's this class. I'm really surprised by all of the positive reviews...

This was great intro to web design and demystified some questions I had. The teacher was engaging and did a great job with the video tutorials, very professional. The outside resources given were excellent & I liked the video explaining how a front-end developer would go about coding a site and the problems that come with it. Very good to know. Overall it is a good jump start if one is wanting to explore this topic further.

This class was a fantastic introduction to thinking in the context of the web. I had used photoshop pretty extensively in the past, but Meg really walked me through the process at a great level of speed/intensity. I ended up doing the course in a day or two and then continued to work on a few independent projects. I'd highly recommend the course for design minded people that are looking to try their hand at design for the web. Next stop...learning how to code it :)

Very awesome class...I'm not even finished with the video tutorials and I've already learned so much! This was my first Skillshare class and I was very pleased. Super easy to follow along and comprehend what she's talking about. You learn a lot about web design, but also a lot of little skills and tricks to apply to all aspects of design. I definitely recommend taking this class!

Great introduction into the aesthetics and principles of web design. I think wireframes and guidance with site planning would have made the glass even more valuable. As a print designer, this was the perfect opportunity to get my feet wet with UI design. I now feel as though I can create an effective design for the web.

While I enjoyed the brief videos of Meg's class and her knowledge and enthusiasm for her craft, I can't say that I enjoyed the experience. Why? There was absolutely no feedback of any kind. When I first signed up, I read in the description that there would be peer and teacher feedback; however that never happened. And although I did learn something, what's the point of learning if you're not getting feedback. You may think your design is good, but who would ever see it. This does not reflect bad on Meg, I think she is a wonderful teacher but the system needs some tweaking. I came to find out later that the class had actually started and ended three months prior to me enrolling. By the time I signed up, there were only a few people that were uploading designs. I just wish I had known about this. I probably wouldn't have signed up for the class knowing it had already started and ended. I think this is misleading.

Meg breaks down seemingly complex design into comprehensive, easy-to-follow steps. Her lively videos make computer-based-classes more engaging and less distant. Five Stars, fully recommend.
