In Skillshare’s unique philosophy, everyone is a teacher, and everyone is a learner. Rather than a traditional lecture format, courses are offered within a global online learning community in which learners collaborate and learn by doing. Instructors are industry leaders who share their skills with anyone who wants to learn. No credits are offered. Founded by online entrepreneurs Michael Karnjanaprakorn and Malcolm Ong, Skillshare’s online “campus” was launched in April 2011. Its catalog has grown from 15 to more than 250 online courses that cover creative arts, entrepreneurship, branding and marketing, lifestyle and technology. The School of MakeOurMark, with courses in photography, illustration and tattooing, was launched in October 2013, and the School of Design went live the following month. Among the instructors who have taught courses are Seth Godin, founder of online marketing firm Yoyodyne, who teaches a class on entrepreneurship; DJ Young Guru, who leads a course on mixing and recording; and actor, writer and director James Franco, whose course focuses on screenwriting for short films. You can begin a Skillshare collaboration by taking an introductory course in a particular area to learn, for example, the fundamentals of Photoshop and expand your knowledge with a five-part, in-depth Photoshop series.

Need to learn how to use Excel and don't want to bother learning about interfaces or keyboard shortcuts?

Who should take my class: Whether you are a beginner or have a little experience with Microsoft Excel, my course is the perfect way to confidently put Excel on your resume or strenghthen your knowledge of the program.

Trust me, you'll understand: If you still have that feeling of "I really don't know if I'm going to understand it once I try", don't worry. Trust me, you'll understand: If you still have that feeling of "I really don't know if I'm going to understand it once I try", don't worry. This is exactly why I've chosen a fun and real-life example  to ease you into beginning to use Excel. I'll guide you through (in plain English!) the overwhelming number of buttons in Excel, so you'll gain a solid understanding of the program.

Learn seriously useful features: You'll learn how to use the 5 most important features of Excel in your everyday work and personal life. They are features that every boss in the world will appreciate you knowing. They will allow you to work more quickly and more accurately, so you can reach conclusions faster and make the best decision possible.

How so? You may ask: By working with my sample guest list of 150 names, you will learn how to create your list in less time and quickly organize it by RSVP/Regrets Only, seating arrangement, preferred meal, etc. You will also learn how to track when and which invitation mailings were sent to your guests. Finally, you will learn how to make sense of the entire list by creating reports that summarize the important details.

It won't take long to complete: Most students finish the course in about 3 hours total. Whether you prefer to cruise through in one sitting, or you like to spread your learning out over a couple weeks, my class allows you to do either. It is broken down into 42 video lessons which are each 5 minutes or less. That means it's easy to save your spot and come back later to keep learning. And remember that you have lifetime access! So, if you want to come back a year from now, it is very easy to find any particular feature want to review.

Fear not, my friend! Acquiring new skills is extremely rewarding, but learning them can often be a painful process. However, I don't believe it should be painful! So, my goal is to make learning Excel an enjoyable process for you. Here's your chance to learn a valuable skill on your own terms.

Great class. I definitely came out of it with a much better grasp of Excel. Very easy to follow and just the right video lengths to keep me from getting overwhelmed. I finished it in a day and emerged more confident from my weekend. Highly recommended.

This was a great class for an intro to excel. I would really like to see a class dedicated to formulas to expand on this and provide intermediate knowledge.

This class was exactly what I was looking for. Not only was I hoping to learn the basics in making an Excel spreadsheet that would help me in my professional life, but I recently got engaged and will also utilize this course in my personal life as well! The course was easy to maneuver, was clear and easy to follow, and went at a pace that never left me feeling overwhelmed by all the new information I was being presented with. I absolutely would recommend this course for anyone who would like to learn how to use Excel!

The thumbs down is a culmination of the cost and the pacing of the course. Conlan is a very clear teacher, but I feel that more time was spent on which keys had particular symbols on them and the physical entering of basic data rather than easier ways to expand that data. Like some of the other reviews stated, I'm basically all self-taught in Excel, and would consider myself at a novice level, but at a place where I need to really amp it up for new work responsibilities. The areas that seemed most valuable to me, like the last unit on pivot tables, did not seem to have a fair share of attention and detail when compared to some of the earlier, more basic units. I would have loved a bit more depth in some of these areas to help get the brain churning at the applications in other areas (the wedding planning was a great example to use for the course, but not something I'll be doing during my own uses of the program). I do feel more confident in a few areas I didn't quite know how to use before, and again, the teaching was very clear and easy to follow, but I don't know that I would necessarily recommend this based on the level/depth of information compared to the cost of the course :/

I have been wanting to improve upon my Excel skills for years and came across Conlan's class on skillshare. I never really had any formal training with Excel and just sort of figured things out. I think most folks have a similar experience in just making it work.I knew I wasn't being very efficient, but wasn't sure how to best learn things. Conlan's class is quite helpful and I like that it is broken down into small chunks of information. It's perfect for someone like me that does not learn best by sitting in 90 minute lectures or in computer lab settings. Conlan's class is prescriptive and gives you real world examples to work along with him in learning basic formulas, which I know will be very helpful for me in my day job. Conlan's delivery is also very calming and he has a relaxing voice to listen to. I was able to complete this course in just over 3 hours, really enjoyed it and cannot wait to use my new skills in data manipulatio... I learned so much from Conlan's online Excel class! I have taken an Excel class in the past, but being able to go back to the videos where I need help and "see" how to do it is incredibly helpful. Very clear and well organized! Good for all levels of familiarity with Excel.

Great tutorial-type class to help you get acquainted with Excel. Conlan goes slow enough that total beginners should be able to follow along, but he also covers enough info that occasional Excel users will still learn a thing or two, and gain confidence in summarizing, displaying, formatting, and manipulating their data.
