In Skillshare’s unique philosophy, everyone is a teacher, and everyone is a learner. Rather than a traditional lecture format, courses are offered within a global online learning community in which learners collaborate and learn by doing. Instructors are industry leaders who share their skills with anyone who wants to learn. No credits are offered. Founded by online entrepreneurs Michael Karnjanaprakorn and Malcolm Ong, Skillshare’s online “campus” was launched in April 2011. Its catalog has grown from 15 to more than 250 online courses that cover creative arts, entrepreneurship, branding and marketing, lifestyle and technology. The School of MakeOurMark, with courses in photography, illustration and tattooing, was launched in October 2013, and the School of Design went live the following month. Among the instructors who have taught courses are Seth Godin, founder of online marketing firm Yoyodyne, who teaches a class on entrepreneurship; DJ Young Guru, who leads a course on mixing and recording; and actor, writer and director James Franco, whose course focuses on screenwriting for short films. You can begin a Skillshare collaboration by taking an introductory course in a particular area to learn, for example, the fundamentals of Photoshop and expand your knowledge with a five-part, in-depth Photoshop series.

I signed up for this class as a refresher, as I have been only sporadically using Illustrator lately, and to hopefully pick up some new tips and tricks. I haven't finished the class yet, but have already learned several things I didn't know and have gotten much more excited about diving back in head first! I'm really glad I signed up and really appreciate everything being taught in the class!

Great class! I learned a lot of basic skills for using Illustrator, and this was super helpful for someone coming from 15 years of Photoshop experience! Brad throws in a lot of great little tips and tricks, too, like keyboard shortcuts, which are going to save me a ton of time. I really enjoyed seeing the how-to, along with watching how he applies these techniques to a specific project.

I REALLY enjoyed this class. I first learned illustration in 2002, and really didn't like it at the time. Plus I never felt like I could get a handle on the tools. I tried the expensive classrooms in a book series from Adobe and it didn't help. This class was great for me because I needed to see the most basic things in action to understand them. It was just the right amount information to get me started and then I got really excited to do the project. I definitely recommend this class.

Great intro to Illustrator. Spend time looking at the student projects for ideas of what works and what doesn't. Brad Woodard is a good teacher. He leads you through a simple project that let's you learn the basics of pen tool, paths, colors, etc.

Some of the lessons and videos didn't seem to match up with the project steps towards the end, but overall I was very happy with the class. Although I had worked in Illustrator before, this class taught me some new tools and shortcuts.

Good class! I've taken an Illustrator Basics class before at the Art Institute and this class was a great refresher. Not to mention I learned some AWESOME tips that they never even mentioned in the university class!! Thanks so much Brad! I highly recommend this class. :)

I found this class to be a great introduction as a beginner in Illustrator. I was introduced to the heart of Illustrator's tools and create something that looks complex, but is actually quite simple to make when broken down into shapes. Brad noted helpful shortcuts and added a few nuggets of professional experience tips.

This is a pretty good class for beginners. As someone who has been to design school I was still able to pick up a lot of tips & tricks from this class. Thank You Brad for explaining clipping masks in plain english!! Something even my professors were unable to do!

The class was ok but I wouldn't recommend it to someone who wants to learn Illustrator. It does not cover much of the features of Illustrator like using mesh tool or the perspective grid or other cool things. I loved some of the tips though, and Brad has a nice and calm voice.

I thought it was great. I learned a lot of tricks I wasn't aware of and they now save me a lot of time. I would have liked to learn a little more about textures but I know Woodard has a class on that as well. So that is next!

I've done other intro Illustrator tutorials and this one covered some things I didn't know about. The pen tool instructions helped me crack the mystery of the pen tool and was the most useful part of the tutorial for me.

Are you an illustrator that's trying to learn, well, Illustrator? Then this is a great class for you! If you're not focused so much in illustration as in, say, web design, then this is still a good class you. Learning how to build and combine shapes is the key to learning and using Illustrator well, and this is just what you'll learn to do here. So, if you are an Illustrator newbie, go for this class!

Feels kind of like having a (very patient) friend teaching you the basics of Illustrator! The project is fun and very flexible - it's up to you how far you want to take it, you could be at your computer for hours. Or days!

Really wonderful. I took the class to learn how to use the pen tool, since that's an aspect of Illustrator that I've always found challenging. The project definitely helped with that, and Brad did a great job explaining.
