In Skillshare’s unique philosophy, everyone is a teacher, and everyone is a learner. Rather than a traditional lecture format, courses are offered within a global online learning community in which learners collaborate and learn by doing. Instructors are industry leaders who share their skills with anyone who wants to learn. No credits are offered. Founded by online entrepreneurs Michael Karnjanaprakorn and Malcolm Ong, Skillshare’s online “campus” was launched in April 2011. Its catalog has grown from 15 to more than 250 online courses that cover creative arts, entrepreneurship, branding and marketing, lifestyle and technology. The School of MakeOurMark, with courses in photography, illustration and tattooing, was launched in October 2013, and the School of Design went live the following month. Among the instructors who have taught courses are Seth Godin, founder of online marketing firm Yoyodyne, who teaches a class on entrepreneurship; DJ Young Guru, who leads a course on mixing and recording; and actor, writer and director James Franco, whose course focuses on screenwriting for short films. You can begin a Skillshare collaboration by taking an introductory course in a particular area to learn, for example, the fundamentals of Photoshop and expand your knowledge with a five-part, in-depth Photoshop series.

Course Description

"There's really no wrong way to do a meatball..."

—Dan Holzman, The Meatball Shop Executive Chef, Food & Wine Magazine: Best of the Best 2013

This class is for anyone interested in the culinary art of the meatball. Whether you're a long-time chef, aspiring home-cook, or just general lover of meatballs, you're guaranteed to learn a ton. We'll take you behind the scenes of The Meatball Shop operation, right into our test kitchen in NYC to show you how we make our now famous meatballs and sauces.

And then it's your turn.

We're challenging you to show us your best balls. Invent a recipe or use your great-great-grandmother's. Tell us what inspired you and show us a picture of your final creation.

The tips that you get from this free skillshare class is amazing. Not only do I know how to make a damn good meatball, I also can crack an egg without the shell dropping into the mixture. Thanks!

Daniel, the way you explain things are super clear and the fact that the recipes are "basic" allows for infinite alterations. More please more. This is by FAR one of the most enjoyable classes I've taken on Skillshare.

Loving this class, and even though I knew parts to do, there still were some great tips... looking forward to photographing my efforts come dinner time. K, that sounded wrong. Also Daniel Holzman's pretty funny... great class!

My meatballs came out great! I used fresh parsley and cilantro, put in a touch of garlic powder and added a bit too much salt. I also decided they needed another five minutes cooking time (wrong!). They came out a touch too salty and a bit overcooked. I hadn't allowed for the fact that they would continue to cook a bit after coming out of the oven. The Ricotta cheese was the bomb- diggity ingredient. The first meal (Capallini Alfredo) was fabby and I have four more meals (cooking for one) to look forward to. At least one will definitely be a meatball sub! Thanks Daniel.

Holzman knows his balls! I've been using The Meatball Shop cook book for more than a year, and having extra instructions via video was super helpful. I am now a meatball pro.

Daniel's "keep it simple" approach to cooking was a breath of fresh air. His skills, techniques, and ideas really resonated in me, and I feel I really absorbed his simple lessons and they have made me a far better cook.

Great videos! Good presence as an instructor, gave great additional info on salt, fat, olive oil. The 4x6 tip was a pretty nice one. Holzman looks like a cool guy.

Daniel Holzman's meatball making class was fantastic. The instructional videos he created were informative, detailed, and created with a good sense of humor. I love reading cookbooks and food blogs, but his class took the food experience to another level! Loved it.

He gave good information throughout the course on the reason for his techniques and the foundational elements that would allow you to riff off of the recipe later. I'm a fairly experienced cook and found it useful.

I enjoyed the instructional video. Sound and visual were very good. His ease of explanation was nice. Many cooking shows forget about the point is to learn to cook. I don't need to be entertained. Very hands on and practical.
