The big picture: the class is structured to teach you the four building-blocks of modern marketing and the 50+ terms that support them. With this conceptual frame and vocabulary firmly in place, you’ll be able to define the scope, function, and action items of a smart, effective, 21st-century marketing plan. I promise: this is fun work. We’ll talk a lot about famous brands as well as your own. I believe in tactics that are both strategic and practical.

Also included: original ebooks, reformatted classics, video interviews, and more. In total, it’s just over 2 hours of video content and 50+ pages of original supplemental readings and worksheets. I’ve designed it not to be daunting, but to be comprehensive and rewarding.

Be proactive about making this class work for you. If you enroll solo, connect with students in the Skillshare discussion forums, posting your work and sharing feedback. If you enroll with colleagues, schedule team check-ins and lunch meetings to discuss your learning.

What You'll Do

The outcome is not a boring business plan. It’s your detailed plan (with a calendar) on how you will do work that matters and how you will spread the word about it. Your project is about developing a point of view and learning to tell a story that resonates. It'll be crucial to give and get feedback from your classmates in order to incorporate new perspectives and ideas into your plan.

Project: Create a modern marketing plan for your business or favorite brand.

Brief: You'll use the modern marketing lessons from this class to apply the Action Theory of Marketing and create a plan for your business or favorite brand. To translate the key concepts from the lessons into your project, be sure your marketing plan includes the following 6 components:  

  1. Describe the business or brand you’re marketing.
  2. Answer 11 questions to clarify your role as marketer. 
  3. Prioritize 3 P's to be the backbone of your marketing plan. 
  4. Identify top concepts you'll use to move through Emotion, Change, Alert & Share from your audience.
  5. Articulate your marketing point of view. What do you stand for? What are you trying to accomplish? 
  6. Tell the story you'll use to seduce your tribe and start your movement. Your story can be written, visual or both.

This class has provided me so much value that the cost of taking it is a joke. It could easily be priced at $500 and still be a bargain. The catch is that you have to immerse yourself in it, and do all of the work. Just like homework when you were in school. If you're not willing to do that, don't bother. But you're here, so I assume that you care enough to think about it. Great. Do it. You're going to spend a good amount of hours watching, reading, writing, learning, and commenting on other projects if you do it right. But here's what you will get when you're done: The confidence and ability to say to yourself that 'you are a professional marketer now' and that 'you can market anything'. Of course, it's going to take a little bit of real world practice to really become great at it, but, you will have all of the tools that you need. What's the value of being able to tell the right story to the right people about your product and conv... This class has provided me so much value that the cost of taking it is a joke. Class was highly informative and even more transformative. I especially like the way Seth broke up the sections, included pdfs, case studies and links to other relevant material. Having only had traditional educational experiences, I must say this was cool. I'll be back.

I couldn't complete a lesson without run to try what I learned. I really enjoy and connect with Seth's point of view about marketing (or life if you want). Seth Godin has down it once more. He used words to tell a story which changed how I viewed marketing. He shared how to use the framework in course to tell a story that spreads, to lead and build a tribe, and create change. Thanks Skillshare for providing this platform for learning. God I love Seth Godin! I've spent 20 years building my business on these very same rules without really realising it. I actually have Seth to thank for a lot of our success eventhough I've never even met him. This course is without question the most valuable advice I have ever come across. Every marketeer in the world should watch this (although I'd be secretly happy if they didn't to be honest as it would make our lives easier if they weren't successful!) Excellent advice, clearly delivered - inspiring. Thank you Seth.

Mr Godin doesn't hold back at all with this class, cramming it full of ideas and concepts to chew over, as well as many additional downloads. As a non- marketer who is new to the responsibility of telling a brand's story, I found the course a bit dense at first, with so many questions to answer, but I took my time and answered them at my own pace before moving on (something that is highly recommended here at Skillshare). I'm definitely going to revisit this one in the future, as well as the online Q&A;, the notes from which have been made available. The discussion there should further supplement the material in this course.

I liked Seth's Marketing course for lots of reasons. The main one being that you were given fantastic resources and examples and then given the opportunity to go through the exercises.I learn more when I have to put in a bit of myself in the process.I appreciated the feedback I got from other students and being able to be in on the Q and A session with Seth. I feel more up to date than I did before and excited about marketing my new business!! Thank-you :-)

Seth is an amazing marketer and teacher. Skill share makes it very easy to go through the course and converse with other people taking the course. I would have happily paid double the price for this course.

Seriously? A class with Seth Godin for mere dollars? Need I say more? This was a fantastic class! Really makes you stop and think, not just how you will market your company/project, but he makes you think about why you are actually doing it to begin with. Absolutely invaluable education from someone who understands modern marketing like few do. I dare say that any individual/company who doesn't take this class will be at a disadvantage!

This class has been extremely valuable. Seth Godin is helping me and my staff focus on key questions. This process is helping us drive the company where we want it to go. I love this class. Seth Godin is stretching the way I have been thinking about my story and my product. The class is helping me re evaluate my brand and my approach to marketing. I would be more involved in the class discussion but I am rebuilding my website and I am reworking it to death.
