The big picture: the class is structured to teach you the four building-blocks of modern marketing and the 50+ terms that support them. With this conceptual frame and vocabulary firmly in place, you’ll be able to define the scope, function, and action items of a smart, effective, 21st-century marketing plan. I promise: this is fun work. We’ll talk a lot about famous brands as well as your own. I believe in tactics that are both strategic and practical.

Also included: original ebooks, reformatted classics, video interviews, and more. In total, it’s just over 2 hours of video content and 50+ pages of original supplemental readings and worksheets. I’ve designed it not to be daunting, but to be comprehensive and rewarding.

Be proactive about making this class work for you. If you enroll solo, connect with students in the Skillshare discussion forums, posting your work and sharing feedback. If you enroll with colleagues, schedule team check-ins and lunch meetings to discuss your learning.

What You'll Do

The outcome is not a boring business plan. It’s your detailed plan (with a calendar) on how you will do work that matters and how you will spread the word about it. Your project is about developing a point of view and learning to tell a story that resonates. It'll be crucial to give and get feedback from your classmates in order to incorporate new perspectives and ideas into your plan.

Project: Create a modern marketing plan for your business or favorite brand.

Brief: You'll use the modern marketing lessons from this class to apply the Action Theory of Marketing and create a plan for your business or favorite brand. To translate the key concepts from the lessons into your project, be sure your marketing plan includes the following 6 components:  

  1. Describe the business or brand you’re marketing.
  2. Answer 11 questions to clarify your role as marketer. 
  3. Prioritize 3 P's to be the backbone of your marketing plan. 
  4. Identify top concepts you'll use to move through Emotion, Change, Alert & Share from your audience.
  5. Articulate your marketing point of view. What do you stand for? What are you trying to accomplish? 
  6. Tell the story you'll use to seduce your tribe and start your movement. Your story can be written, visual or both.

This would have to be the most insightful, challenging yet incredibly simple course I have ever seen. I have been to several seminars, classes and workshops, yet none taught me as Seth has. This is an absolute goldmine for anyone with the fortitude to pursue this line of Action Theory Marketing. Highly Recommended (there we go: I'm sharing it already!)

There is something magical in the way Seth Godin delivers. He knows how to command your attention and he always delivers his content in away that makes it easy to understand. He always seems to pull those Ah Ha moments from his content.

This is the second class I've taken from Seth Godin on Skillshare- both have been exceptional. The course content has been challenging and practical. It's caused me to ask myself a whole new set of questions about my business. It's introduced me to other thought leaders who have challenged my thinking. I'm still working on my project. Still thinking about what's most important and planning our next tactical steps. The Modern Marketing Workshop is one of those classes that when you're done, you're really just beginning. So, so helpful.

Though he rambles on at times with personal anecdotes, Seth Godin's class was excellent. He provided good documentation and references. Actually, the personal anecdotes were interesting.

Class was mostly great. Godin really brings it. However, the exercises were structured in a very confusing way. I had hoped for a straight-forward project that I would move through along with the lectures, but instead there were too many pdfs to download, too many things to keep track of, and no coherence at the end.

Fantastic Class, learned a lot about weird permission marketing. Really helped in defining our products position in the market place, the story we need to tell about what we stand for and more importantly how we can spread the word on wht we're doing. Highly recommended!

There are so many gold mines of information in this course that I would suggest that you go through the course 2-3 times to make sure that you got everything. The homework is scary, but it gets you on the pinpoint path on where you should be taking your business and that is HUGE!

I've been a Seth Godin fan for many years, so you'd think I would have heard everything and read everything from Seth. But once again, he delivers new material in this course. I have pages and pages of notes from the well organized, informally presented course. It's like a personal masterclass with PDF extras as well the as main video notes. Highly recommended for anyone interested in marketing.

I loved this course. We have been having problems with our marketing. I now have my whole team working on the course content and I believe we are going to be in a much stronger position in just a few weeks time. Would recommend it to anyone in business or wanting to start.

What a class. I am speechless. No, I will find something to say:) I listen to Seth talk a few times, same units, over a span of time. There is a lot of priceless and very thought through information he shares. And it takes time to absorb all of it and really let it change you. I was never one of the "old marketing״ fans, but I am changing my whole view on business, sales and marketting listening to him. There is a world of opportunity to make good stuff in a fair and smart way, and I think Seth is one of the leaders of that framework of thinking. Thank you so much for putting it online! I just can believe how lucky I am watching this from my apartment in Tel Aviv. Crazy and wonderful.

Dear Seth Godin, I love you. I think I audibly cheer every time Seth brings up a topic I feel passionately about. I've seen the marketing he's talking about in action and he couldn't be more dead on. If marketing isn't quite in your blood, Godin's lessons will bring you one step closer to understanding brand, direct marketing, and the creative universe.

The class is great! As Seth Godin mentions in the introduction video, you will learn more if you apply the theory to your business/ideas. There is a lot of useful information in this course, maybe you should watch every video at least twice. I think the course changed how I think about marketing. GREAT STUFF!

This was another great Skillshare from Seth. Lots of light bulbs went off. I took a lot of notes even though Seth gives ton of content. Now I'm going to follow up with the exercises so I can fully develop and apply some of the ideas and new answers that came to me.
