It's all about you, the student. It’s about providing you with a flexible and affordable college education. It’s about putting you on a straighter line to the exact same quality degree from a top online and accredited college, in the field and ultimately the career of your choice. Whether you are starting on the road to your degree, adding new skills to advance your career, coming back to college after life got in the way, or you just need a couple of courses to graduate, StraighterLine is here to help. StraighterLine was founded in 2009, by Burck Smith as a solution to the rising costs of college education. Burck set out to discover why prices for online courses were the same or higher than those of face-to-face courses. To date, our students have transferred 26,000+ StraighterLine credits to America’s top universities for career-focused adults. This year, 10,000 students just like you will take StraighterLine courses before getting their degree and advancing their careers. With 50+ Partner colleges automatically accepting your credits when you enroll, at StraighterLine you never have to worry about credit transfers or course equivalency. Course Description

This course provides students with a comprehensive overview of the development of early civilizations from Neolithic times to 1715. Early and contemporary Western cultures are compared and contrasted, as are major religious, social, and political reforms. Other topics include the religious influence of Judaism and the Bible, the rise and fall of ancient Greece, and the transformation of Rome from a republic to an empire. The Crusades, the origins of feudalism, and the evolution of Christianity are examined, as is the evolution of the European economy during Westward expansion. The Scientific Revolution and Enlightenment period are also discussed.

All course description material indicates theories and concepts. The online homework has no relationship or relevance to the Exams. The exams are detailed "date" and "definition" multiple choice questions, no theory. Requires infinite memorization. The online chat tutors have never taken the Straighterline course and are unable to provide any meaningful assistance. I do not recommend this course for anyone with no prior knowledge or course work in western civilization, you will not receive mesningful assistance from staff or tutors. You are totally and completely on your own.

Text book is very detailed. Online and course material does not relate to the text book. Neither the text book or the online material prepare you for the actual exams. The online and course material indicate knowledge of "theories" will be reviewed in exams. However, the exams are definitions, dates, memorization. . . no conceptual questions. Would not recommend course if you have no prior knowledge or background in Western Civilization.

The class was informative. The history that is focused on throughout the book is relative to today's society and can be applied in interesting ways.

I did not use the Smart Thinking Tutor, so I can't compare that to the course. The lesson presentations were good but they didn't always seem to relate to the exams.
