I took this course because it was offered for free. Had I paid the full price for it, I would have been very disappointed. There are 18 "lectures" but 3 of them are less than 2 minutes long; hardly enough time to be considered a "lecture." The instructor should take some time to collect his thoughts before he hits the record button... I get the impression that he has a rough idea what he wants to talk about but then just wings it and each lesson ends up being scattered and very fast. Some lessons seem like they are actually afterthoughts to the previous lessons... things that should have been mentioned but forgotten. But by far, my biggest complaint is that I don't think he does a good job picking a target audience. He says it's for the absolute beginner, but he'll throw around terms like "functions", pseudo- code", and "objects" which may be foreign terms to a beginner. He makes assumptions that a user understands HTML, but then introduces things like comments. For a free overview, it gives you an idea what JS can do, but it doesn't really teach you basic fundamentals. But for $30, it's really a waste of money given the amount of resources that are available online. I'll give points for the audio and video quality, but I can't say that the course delivered on its promise to "learn" Javascript. Sorry.

Practically he is a very fine teacher on what he teaches. :) I went over a few of his 1 hour courses, and they were all quite efficient.

As with other courses by the author, the style and passion is terrific. The hands-on style and insistence that the student follow along by typing is really fun and engaging. One big drawback is that JavaScript is such a large area of study, that one hour cannot do it justice for any kind of depth.

Excellent for someone who's wanting to get their toes wet with JS. Also introduces a nice online editor called jsbin to help you get going quickly with web page development. Instructor is very easy to understand and the pace is quite reasonable and sticks to the subject quite well.

The course helps you and prepares your mind with what you can do with javascript. I would recommend this course to anyone who needs a brief introduction of Javascript and with what you can do with it.

Solid intro to Javascript. I would have loved for John to include the actual syntax for importing a JS file to your html document, as that should be one of the basics. Overall solid course, and I will definitely recommend to first time javascript programmers.

I've been trying to learn jQuery with only JS fundamentals, but I am really getting a headache. This course really makes a lot of sense, very good explanations and is really easy. I would recommend it to anyone - both newbies and professional programmers.

I did this as a refresh, I used to be Javascript programmer, but use it or lose it and thought that there would of been newer syntax, but not much different to old Javascript which is good for me. It doesn't go into loops but nevertheless a very good intro.

This is a good course which can serve as a refresher if you had some basic previous javascript knowledge and needed to it as a refresher. I would recommend this course to anyone in this sense or someone who have programming experience but not for a complete beginner to JavaScript but if you have java experience then this course is a very good starting point. The lecturer is very clear in his explanations and speaks clearly compared to some of the authors of a few courses on this website where their account is thick and is a hard to understand. The course has been put together very well and each flows one into the other. I highly recommend this course to anyone.

This course actually makes getting off your rear and starting Javascript pretty painless. The only trouble is - where to go next? If he spent a little more time on the last video (than he already does) on possible tracks and what other courses (of his) may be a logical next step - it would have been a 5-star course. Oh, that and maybe a little more time on saving files in JSBin, and how it works. I realize most answers are in the HELP section of JSBin, but since he already has a lecture on saving the file in JSBin, why not elaborate just a little more?

The course is presented with decent visual and audio quality. It covers some of the fundamentals of javascript and how it can interact with HTML elements in web pages. It is as he indicates in his course wrap up, a very quick "get your hands dirty" type course. This course won't have you up and coding beautiful websites in an hour. It also won't make it through all of the fundamentals such as FOR loops, but it will provide you a quick and easy to understand intro to javascript in relation to webpages. If it does whet your appetite for coding or javascript in particular, check out some of the more lengthy courses here on udemy. John has quite a few 1-hour intro style courses; those that I've used are all of good quality production and give you a good idea of what the language/software feels like. Cost is my only concern and I have the same issue with most of Udemy's content, really. I found another source for learning javascript that ...
