There are no words to even begin to describe what a wonderful, scholar, and exciting set of adventures I embarked upon when I started the course. First, don't let the price tag turn you off. It is a bargain of great value for less than the cost of 20 albums in iTunes. Next, don't let the tittle fool you! The fundamentals that you will learn on these lessons and exposure to the masters starting with western Civilization itself (references to Greece), and will continue to apply today and beyond. As a fellow singer, I was constantly overwhelmed by the depth and breadth of musical history, theory, knowledge, and pure listening joy that Mr. Neely provided me. Yet, I did not need any previous knowledge whatsoever to take this amazingly guided journey throughout more than 1600 years of western music and civilization. Mr. Neely deserves an standing ovation for managing to squeeze such an impossible and improbable amount of material and making it accessible and absolutely delightful to mere mortals. I would strongly recommend this course to anyone who wants a captivating and almost effortless approach to enrich their enjoyment of any kind of music!

I'm about a quarter of the way through this course and it is phenomenal. This is a substantial course with a depth of material which is comprehensive, informative and well presented. I could say many things about this course but my suggestion would be, if you have any interest in the history of music, just take the course and experience it yourself. This is a great learning experiencing which I am sure is different and satisfying for every student. the material is so rich that there is something her for everyone. Enjoy!!

Thank you, William for this great job. I like music, and I've always wanted to understand all kinds of it. It was my first goal. Now, after I've already completed the course I see the intentions, tools, styles and historical background. I played hard rock, I knew the main ideas in music, but my learning were not structurized. So the second goal for me was to organize my knowledge. Now everything is arranged in my head pretty good. Moreover I like music even more. Instructor is well prepared and passionate, the production quality is pretty high. Pavel

I can't say enough good about Bill Neely's Adventures in Classical Music course. Prior to taking his course, I had studied ballet, piano, violin, clarinet, honor chorus and musical theater when young. By taking it, I got to find out how very little I knew about music. It has been a wonderful experience of learning from the basic elements to creating a symphony, from ancient Greece through computer music, and everything in between. Each lesson built on the next, and through this I was able to comprehend music in a way I had never dreamed possible. I came to appreciate that the study of music is very deep! I wish that I had taken this class years ago. Now when I listen to the classical music station and the announcer begins talking about the piece, I don't wonder what they are saying, I know. It reminds me of learning Greek. Suddenly I understand a new language, music. I highly recommend this course for all ages. It's never too late, a... It's never too late, and never too early to learn to deeply appreciate classical music especially, and through your new knowledge, all music. Plus, you get a wonderful history lesson at the same time. In ancient Greece, music was considered an integral part of health and medicine, and that should apply in the present as well. We all need more music in our lives to stay in balance. This is a wonderful way to understand it more deeply.

I loved this class. It was so interesting to look at the development of music over the centuries. Bill Neely is super-knowledgeable, and obviously has a deep love of the subject matter.

One of the best courses I've taken on Udemy. I love the structure and the depth covered by the course on each musical period. The author has a great style: clear, knowlegable and fun. I highly recommend this course for everyone who'd like to get to know different musical periods and improve their musical appreciation! Truly impressed!

I am less than 1/3 done with this course, and I have learned many musical concepts already. In addition I have learned a lot about the history of the western world, and as a practicing Catholic, I have received a bonus of learning about the history of our liturgical worship. I took the course to get a well rounded musical education as I am a community musician who did not major in music in college. This course is helping me to achieve that goal.

As a university professor I can appreciate the high degree of expertise and research that has gone into the development of this course. I am extremely fond of both history and music, and Mr. Neely provides in-depth knowledge of music as well as the important historical context. I have recommended this course to colleagues at the university; it is so much more than the general music appreciation course. It is, indeed, an adventure, and I am learning a lot. Mr. Neely's course comprehensively covers all aspects of Western Classical music in a very comfortable, easy to follow way. For anyone new to classical music, this will provide an absolutely solid way to appreciate it. Although I myself am hardly new to classical music, having been listening and studying it avidly for about 60 years, I nevertheless found insights and approaches that were new, stimulating and enlightening to me.

This course gives you the basics in the first 5 hours or so, then for the rest of the course is a comprehensive historic overview of classical music from Medieval to the present. It is well structured, always entertaining, and really well illustrated. Very highly recommended.

I found Bill Neely's online music appreciation course to be very stimulating, with clearly-stated goals. The curriculum is laid out in a logical, concise manner. Bill is direct and easy to listen to, keeping up your interest with detailed analysis of some basics. I've always appreciated classical music, but never known exactly why. Bill's course fills in a lot of gaps for me. I couldn't be happier or more satisfied. I hope Bill will offer more music courses, perhaps with a focus on important composers, lyricists and singers. I would particularly appreciate a course on Gilbert and Sullivan.
