I would highly recommend this class to anyone who has recently purchased a Nikon DSLR and doesn't have the slightest clue about photography. JP makes the learning process incredibly easy and I literally went from zero to hero in just a few hours. Seriously, skip the manual - use this course.

I got my first DSLR, having no idea what all those Menus are meant for. I took other free courses on Udemy and watched bunch of Youtube videos. Finally Confused :) I decided to take this course because it says Nikon (Same as mine). JP explained basics lot better and explained in a practical way. After this I realized this course applies to any DSLR camera, no need to be Nikon. I enjoyed each lesson and am more comfortable to use my camera and will practice more. I will recommend to any DSLR beginner & and will look forward for advance classes. Thanks !!

When I bought my first DSLR, a Nikon D3100, last spring, I skimmed through the manual and read several photography books and web articles. Though I learned a lot about composition while looking at others' photos, I didn't retain much information about camera settings. Invariably, I would compose a shot, then have no idea what settings to use. I usually defaulted to Auto because it was easier than trying to remember what I'd read about aperture and shutter speed and how they interact. I enjoyed this video course and feel much more comfortable with my camera after completing it and doing the exercises. John Pullos is an engaging instructor and clearly has a lot of experience teaching. I appreciate his down-to-earth approach to explaining exposure, aperture, shutter speed, and other settings. I'm excited to continue applying what I've learned in this class and putting my mode dial to better use.

John did a great job with this course and teaching everything, but at times it was EXTREMELY basic information. He had some very great points and taught an online class better than most people can. I enjoyed taking some information away from this and look forward to learning even more about my Nikon DSLR camera. However, if I had paid full for this course (I got this for over half off) then I may not have been pleased with it as a whole. It is extremely overpriced for what it accomplishes and teaches. Overall, a positive experience.

I am completely new to photography and just bought my first DSLR. This class was wonderful! John is obviously very knowledgeable, but beyond that, he is gifted at explaining complex concepts in a way anyone can understand and at prompting his students to apply their newfound knowledge in order to effectively solidify their understanding. I highly recommended this course. It is well worth the money.

Great course John, everything I've been taught before was so focused on the technology of the camera, and it really distracted me from taking pictures. I really like your teaching style and the examples you used throughout the course will help me to remember this for years to come. Best photography teacher I have ever had. I look forward to your next course!

Up until taking this class both Aperture and Shutter Speed have confused me, no both have been brought a lot more in to focus (pun intended). Thank you JP for sharing your expertise.

This course has left me feeling more confident using my DSLR and has greatly helped me to understand aperture and shutter speed, two areas that I had difficulty getting my head around. I highly recommend this course.

Very informative and well written. No overload, just the basics to get you started to understanding your camera. The analogies also stick with you. Would recommend to anyone new to DSLR. You'll feel confident within minutes.

This course, if taken with your Nikon DSLR in your hand and with a strong degree of focus, is an excellent introduction to the information you need to get out of Auto mode and really find out how your DSLR Nikon works and what knowing that will allow you to do. He explores basic concepts of aperture and shutter speed, as they apply to getting the light you want to the digital sensor in your camera to get the image you want. He gives you courage to find out what happens when you turn your Mode dial to M, A, S, and (my personal favorite) P! Do *real* photography. It's fun!

The lessons were clear and easy to follow. I loved the wrap up lesson, thank you for letting ws know we should not feel guilty for using auto mode or other modes. I really dont want to use manual mode all the time as I was taught before. The experience shared with other students you have thaught before was useful too.

This was a wonderful class. JP speaks really clearly and balances explaining basic information with discouraging students from getting bogged down with details. The class provided me with enough info so that I'm not afraid of my first DSLR but not so much that I feel like I'm earning a PhD in photography. Thanks for the great intro course - I plan to return to it once I've played around with the camera a little more!

This course is great no matter what the brand of your camera. There is very little that is Nikon specific. This course is also useful if you have a bridge camera (non-interchangable lens) or an advanced point n click with A, S, M & P modes, again, any brand.

Wow. I have been wanting to learn the basics of a DSLR for several years but when reading books on it, it's honestly confusing. I took this class in a little over two hours and am already taking way better photos than I ever have! It covers all the necessary basics and more.

This is an excellent beginners course. Thank you explaining everything so clearly. I just bought a Nikon 5200 and having been looking for something for last month. I am not sure if you are planning on adding any other courses. I am looking for courses targeting night time/low light photography.

I love the no memorization approach. It makes learning fun and gives me the "tools" I need to explore and keep learning on my own. I believe photography has a integral personal touch component to it and this approach encourages to explore that.
